My friend, 61, nurse, wants to volunteer.

If wrong forum pls move.

She has 25 years experience. I thought there might be somewhere in Thailand (,Karen tribe Burmese refugees etc) that would welcome her. Or anywhere in Asia.

She has no money to pay those exorbitant fees. Ideally would like free lodging and food. She has no money but lots of energy.

Any ideas?

Thai law: volunteering might require a work permit or specific visa, especially if you’re in a professional role (nursing). Doing unpaid professional work without proper authorization may run into legal issues. (It’s murkier in remote/rural areas, but still a risk.)

I couldn’t find clear info on whether they offer free room and board. Likely some support depending on the project.

I was considering a similar move, but in education area, before I retired here over a decade ago.

As noted above, you need a Non Imm O visa to volunteer or a work permit.

In my case, I found that I could arrive on a Non Imm O-A visa, then change to volunteer visa, then would have to change to a Non Imm O retirement visa after I finished volunteering.  Too much of a problem, and the possibility of visa rejection, and being forced to leave.

Thus, I gave up the idea of volunteering.
