Thai Banks Hit by Interest Rate Cuts Impacting Earnings

The net interest income (NII) of listed banks in Thailand is anticipated to decline considerably in the third quarter of 2025 due to successive interest rate cuts by the Bank of Thailand totaling one percentage point over the past year. According to KGI Securities, the combined NII of seven SET-listed banks is projected to fall by 3% quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) and 10% year-on-year (y-o-y). This decline is largely due to a reduction in the net interest margin (NIM), aligning with the central bank’s monetary easing.

Israeli Man Caught Stealing Temple Donations in Pattaya

A 34-year-old Israeli man, identified only as Bar, was apprehended early Friday morning following an attempted theft in Pattaya. The incident began at a massage parlor where the man allegedly demanded a refund for a completed service before seizing donation envelopes meant for a temple. The ensuing chase through Pattaya’s busy entertainment district ended with local motorcycle taxi drivers restraining the suspect until police could arrive.

BMA Launches AI to Boost English Skills in Schools

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is set to introduce artificial intelligence in its schools to enhance English proficiency among students. The initiative aims to address concerning results from last year, where only 3% of students met the A1 proficiency level according to the CEFR standard. The collaboration involves the BMA, Edsy, an education technology startup, and SVOA Plc, with expectations that over 14,000 Grade 6 students across 136 BMA schools will benefit.
