I love how she went after him for fraud, while committing mortgage fraud herself. Such honour! Maybe you could campaign DJT to pardon her

Under paywall. I cannot read it.

Can you quote what she said (a real quote, this time)? 🙂

Yes of course you have a thing there.

Trump is not worried about little legalities like that, jan 6 and in total around 1600 convicted criminals were pardonned

by trump.

Why did Joe Biden do pre emptive pardons?

Because he knew who/what was coming.

Exactly, Trump openly weaponizing the DOJ proves that Biden was right to expect that!

Santos is being released for one reason and one reason only-to put a bug up the rears of the left so we all can sit back and have a good laugh.

Like the lawfare witch-hunt waged against Trump?  That witch-hunt.  I'm no fan of Trump, but I'm even less of a fan of lawfare.

Witch-hunt against trump? I disagree, most likely he committed the crimes he was hunted for. Unfortunately he'll get away with his crimes.

Subverting justice, releasing convicted criminals who confessed to their crimes, AND voiding the requirement for restitution to victims is a good laugh?

America is becoming more like some tin pot dictatorship every day where if you are a friend or support the President Dictator you can get away with anything oppose him or criticise him and god help you.

Where has America the land of the free leader of the free world the paragon of democracy gone.

an embarassment for this American!  He likes to commute sentences of Republicans that say they "like " him and this is not the first nor will it be the last IMHO.

Yes, "stick it to the libs" is obviously your level of maturity. You know, the "making fart noise" intellectual level.

Well done, little buddy!

You know what's even funnier? As part of the commutation, Santos is off the hook for the almost $600K that he was ordered to pay in restitution to the victims of his frauds I bet they're laughing all the way to anywhere except the bank.

And here's an item that's even funnier. Trump pardoned Trevor Milton, the fraudster who founded Nikola. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $167 million. A month before the 2024 election he and his wife donated 1.8 million dollars to the Trump campaign. Trump's pardon negated the prison sentence and the debt. I imagine this item will send you into fits of laughter.

And i think there's several more that contributed to his election fund and were pardoned.

Perhaps its time for America to rewrite the constitution to bring it up to date to reflect todays realities and limit the power of the President, removal of his powers to overrule the courts and issue pardons or to act independantly would be a good start.

As for "the right to bear arms" we've come a long way from the old flintlock single shot muzzle loading muskets and pistols that were common when it was written perhaps the right to bear arms if it must be kept could be limited to single shot not exceeding a certain calibre say .22.

he pardon a guy that stole money from a vet that was trying to save his dying dog the guy is a total liar he heard a lot of people and now with this part and he doesn’t have to pay back over 300,000 that he stole from people but I’ll tell you what Trump pardon you if you’re republican and now he’s going after all his enemies he’s totally screwing up the country And I hate to say it but he wants to be king of America or a dictator that’s really admires

The founding fathers of America never intended it to be a dictatorship which sadly it is starting to look like.

I for one hope you are right we really are stronger together sharing the same ideals and values.

Unfortunately, the 6 current right wing radicals at the Supreme Court disagree with you. And with the Founding Fathers.

Oh-oh Georgie, you owe someone BIG TIME and he is not known for being a nice guy.  In a few weeks he may wish he was back in prison.

Waiting to see what DT does with him, CIA chief maybe?  He and Patel can be the US Intel bookends.

Let's see where things stand in January 2029.  Maybe Putin will no longer be alive.

Economically the US could turn into an Argentina, a parade thieves taking turns draining the country's wealth.

MAGA, baby!

In December 2022, Long Island prosecutors (which would include the county level) opened an investigation into Santos after revelations he fabricated parts of his life.

Santos pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. His federal sentence was recently commuted by President Donald Trump.

While the search results confirm a Nassau County (a New York state jurisdiction) investigation was launched, they focus mainly on the federal charges (wire fraud, identity theft) to which he pleaded guilty and for which he was sentenced and then had his sentence commuted. The status of any potential separate New York state charges and whether he can be arrested on them is not explicitly detailed beyond the initial investigation announcement and the DA's comments on the federal case.

Generally, a presidential commutation only affects federal crimes, not state crimes.

George Santos was a convicted liar, thief, charity defrauder and con artist. He played the victim when his scams came to light, and attempted to use his political position to shield himself. He had the moral compass of a particularly disorientated New York sewer rat.

Now what's not to like?

You do know you making asinine comparison. In UK only the monarch has the power of pardon and is rarely exercised. Trump on the other hand granted 1,600 pardons in his 2nd term up to 23rd July to criminals convicted on federal crimes. All his pardons were dubiously given to those who were either loyalists or Republicans and doubt undergo pardon protocol. Trump is no different from leaders in 3rd world authoritarian countries in transactional pardons. Shame that US has sank so low.

No, he does it through intermediaries. It's pay for a pardon. The cash comes from the released and the intermediary. One is rewarded with a pardon, the other government contracts or positions.
