Deputy Prime Minister Bawornsak Uwanno convened a meeting with relevant security agencies at the Government House Secretariat to discuss potential approaches to cancelling MOU 43-44. Attendees included Defence Minister Gen. Nattapol Nakpanich, Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiyachon Chidchob, Lt. Gen. Adul Boonthamcharoen and other security officials. The discussion focused on evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of terminating the MOU.

The meeting was described by Lt. Gen. Adul as an initial consultation with no decisions made. Ministry of Justice spokesperson Supachai Jaisamut declined to provide details of the meeting’s outcome, directing inquiries to Deputy PM Bawornsak. When reporters asked him upon leaving, Bawornsak said only, “I will speak when the time comes.”

Reports indicate that the session was sensitive, aimed at reviewing both positive and negative aspects of the MOU and exploring possible next steps, with the initiative originating from the military. Following the meeting, agencies will separately compile data and recommendations to present to the government.

The Royal Thai Survey Department indicated no concerns about border demarcation impacts if the MOU were cancelled. Officials stated that both advantages and disadvantages exist and emphasised using the benefits while addressing potential drawbacks. They confirmed that there are currently no concerns regarding compliance with international law.
