Johnson Calls Anti-Trump Protests 'Hate America' Rallies

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has defended his labelling of the weekend's "No Kings" rallies, which oppose US President Donald Trump, as "hate America" rallies. He clarified that his remarks targeted the message, not the protesters themselves. Johnson stated that he noticed "hateful messages" during Saturday's protests, including violent rhetoric against the President.

The controversy arises from Johnson's remarks that link anarchists, antifa, and pro-Hamas groups to the modern Democratic Party, which prompted questions from ABC News' Jonathan Karl. Johnson argued he never claimed the entire Democratic Party held such views but highlighted rising Marxist tendencies within it. He pointed to New York City's mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, and labelled him as an example of this shift.

Mamdani, a self-declared democratic socialist, has contested Trump's depictions of him as a communist. He has repeatedly clarified his political stance and distanced himself from communist ideologies. Johnson also commented on the "No Kings" branding, suggesting irony in the protesters' claims while noting President Trump’s role as an elected leader.

Key Takeaways

  • Mike Johnson describes anti-Trump protests as promoting hate against America.
  • The speaker links demonstrators' rhetoric to Marxist tendencies within the Democratic Party.
  • Zohran Mamdani rebuts accusations of communism, asserting his democratic socialist identity.

America has never been more unified than it is now.

If you can't recognize this hack as a partisan shill, merely spewing crap that pleases his master so he can keep the speakership, then you are too far gone. Go ahead and get a "deplorable" tramp stamp. You've earned it.

One has to remember that Johnson was an obscure nobody when he was put in as Speaker. Often his words indicate why he was as obscure as he was.

He shouldn't  worry commenting with lame talking points on this - he should open the house so the politicians can get to work

You are mistaken we are becoming more unified by the day….against trumpisum and project 2025. I attended the rally in San Diego there was no hate towards our country there was no violence it was more of a love fest for our democracy and deep concern about the direction and non functionality of this abomination of an administration. It was definitely a place to bring your kids and or grandchildren. It gave me renewed strength to fight to preserve our democracy against enemies both foreign and domestic.Speaker Johnson is no more of a speaker than trumps caddy at his golf course.Hes more of a terrified little mouse that the big fat tabby has trapped in his claws.pathetic

That is the exact description of Jeffries and Schumer. If you can't recognize these Jeffries Schumer hacks as partisan shills, merely spewing crap that pleases their master funders and peon base so they can keep their jobs, then you are too far gone. Go ahead and get a "deplorable" tramp stamp. You've earned it.

This is a silly "whataboutism" reply. Of COURSE Jefffies and Schumer are horrible. Whenever I hear Jeffries speaking, I think of a Grade 4 student delivering a book report on which he has little interest. Schumer? Pleeeeeeeeeze, that sorry sack of crap should have been ousted years ago.

Trump is not America.

The current maga fascist republican party is not America.

The protests were against authoritarian Trump rapidly and effectively destroying American democracy and all it's institutions.

With a cooperating supreme court, it may well be too late.

But it's heartening to see much more awareness of the seriousness of the situation.

So all hope is not lost yet.

Would that be the same elected leader whose gilded palace website, (I do apologise, I should have said White House website), posted cartoon images of said leader spraying diarrhoea on the massed crowds?

Such class!

You are correct, the entire political discourse is silly whataboutism of solidified perspectives, it’s not like anyone here is expecting to change the minds of others here, that would be silly delusional.

The little guy is head of some religious group that "prays away the gay".

According to the rumors around Louisiana and DC, it hasn't worked on him.

Just man up and admit it, Mike. Your supposed messiah (Jesus, not Trump) never spoke out against homosexuality.

True. The goal of such things as the No Kings Rally is to mobilize people so that in the next election, Americans do not make the same mistake they did in 2024.

It seems to be going well, which is why Trump pressured Texas to gerrymander, and why he'll do it with other Red States. Absent that, Trump will declare martial law and try to cancel the 2026 midterms.

The people will not stand for that.

I'm quoting your delusional position so we can revisit it in 2026 to see just how funny this becomes

Exactly. He was chosen for his spinelessness.  Someone who would cater to the emperor and do and say what the master demanded.
