Thai authorities have intensified scrutiny of foreign activities on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, driven by several legal breaches, including nominee businesses and unauthorized work. Deputy national police chief, Pol Gen Samran Nuanma, emphasized the government's commitment to address crimes involving foreigners, aiming to protect Thai citizens. This effort forms part of broader operations conducted by the Royal Thai Police (RTP) and related agencies, focusing on maintaining lawful conduct and public confidence.

A recent high-level meeting, chaired by Pol Gen Samran, gathered key stakeholders including Surat Thani's deputy governor and law enforcement representatives. The discussion centered on a concerted strategy for tackling and suppressing illegal activities by foreigners in Surat Thani. Measures discussed include ensuring law enforcement remains robust, transparent, and ongoing, with all offenders facing legal consequences.

Concerns from the private sector about potential negative impacts on tourism were addressed during the meeting. Pol Gen Samran assured that while enforcement is a priority, law-abiding tourists and residents will be treated with fairness, avoiding unnecessary harassment. The strategy outlined includes reviewing immigration records and targeting irregularities, rather than profiling specific nationalities, to maintain transparency.

The meeting reviewed ongoing investigations into a range of offenses, including unauthorized tour operations and illegal business activities. Further inspections aim to address land ownership irregularities, misuse of state land, and compliance with building regulations. Authorities are keen on tackling environmental transgressions, with current probes involving foreigners, including Israeli nationals, accused of illegal land modifications.

Additionally, investigations under the "Samui Model" initiative focus on combating land encroachment and conservation violations, highlighted by incidents of private parties held unlawfully within national parks. The collective law enforcement efforts embody a significant move to uphold law and order while ensuring the region remains a welcoming destination for genuine visitors.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand tightens inspections on illegal foreign actions in tourist areas.
  • Law enforcement aims to balance firm action with fair treatment for visitors.
  • "Samui Model" targets environmental and land misuse violations effectively.

I think it would be easy enough to manage if all agencies were involved. A short time tourist or visitor will not be there long enough to get a thai nominee and open a business using them.

So really they only need to target long stay visitors. Simple enough, make a list of names of long stay foreigners and begin looking at which of them has a business with licenses. Then check how they got their businesses. Legit or Thai nominee. If a thai nominee then go find that Thai and ask some questions as well as check finiacial records to see if they get income from the business. If not, they are a nominee. Then go arrest the foreigner. Hmm..Does not sound so complicated and does not involve any legal foreigner there. Tourist or otherwise.
