Myanmar Bombs Scam Hub Again as Foreigners Flee to Thailand

Myanmar’s military has intensified its drone strikes on KK Park, a notorious scam compound in Myawaddy township, Kayin state, prompting a fresh wave of foreign workers to flee across the border into Thailand.

On 30 October, drones dropped bombs three times on the site—marking the most aggressive single-day assault since the campaign began eight days ago. The compound, located just across the Moei River from Thailand’s Mae Sot district, has long been linked to transnational cybercrime and human trafficking networks.

The Karen Border Guard Force, allied with the junta, targeted an office building within KK Park, opposite Mae Ku Mai Tha Sung village. Though the strikes caused no damage on Thai soil, plumes of smoke were visible from across the border, raising alarm among local residents.

Sources close to the Karen forces say the junta plans to demolish up to 80 buildings within the compound, aiming to dismantle the criminal infrastructure that has drawn international scrutiny. KK Park has been associated with large-scale scam operations involving coerced labour, often targeting foreign nationals lured under false pretences.

As the crackdown escalates, the number of foreign workers fleeing the site continues to grow. Thai authorities report that 1,575 individuals from 28 countries are now sheltering in Mae Sot, seeking refuge from the violence and exploitation.

The situation underscores the complex humanitarian and security challenges along the Thai-Myanmar border. While Thailand has so far avoided direct impact from the bombings, the influx of displaced foreigners is testing local resources and prompting calls for coordinated regional response.

Myanmar’s military has faced mounting pressure over its handling of scam compounds, many of which operate with impunity in border zones. The strikes on KK Park suggest a shift in tactics, but questions remain over the fate of those trapped inside and the long-term strategy for dismantling such networks.

For now, Mae Sot remains a fragile frontline—caught between a crackdown and a crisis.

Well done Myanmar! The Junta, please keep up your good work. The world is watching.

Yet another border for the Thai military to worry about, along with the southern Muslim insurgencies and trying to grab land from Cambodia?

If the world was watching, and had any real interest, they would have intervened and taken out the murderous Myanmar generals two or three years ago.

But nobody cares. And the Burmese people continue to suffer.
