Two-Thirds Of Americans Say US Is On The Wrong Track: Poll

A new ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll has found that 67% of Americans believe the country has “gotten pretty seriously off on the wrong track,” highlighting deep pessimism about the state of the nation. Only 32% said things are “generally going in the right direction.”

The survey — conducted Oct. 24–28 among 2,725 adults — reveals a stark partisan and demographic divide. Nearly all Democrats (95%) and a strong majority of independents (77%) said the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction, compared with just 29% of Republicans.

Across racial lines, 87% of Black respondents, 71% of Hispanics, 71% of Asians, and 61% of white Americans expressed the same view.

While the figure marks a slight improvement from November 2024 — when 75% said the country was off track before the presidential election — it shows continued public discontent with both major parties.

The poll also paints a picture of widespread alienation from the political establishment.

  • 68% said the Democratic Party is “out of touch” with ordinary Americans.

  • 61% said the same of the Republican Party.

  • 63% believe Donald Trump is out of touch, while 36% said he understands voters’ concerns.

With a margin of error of ±1.9 percentage points, the poll underscores the growing sense of national unease and distrust across partisan lines — a trend that continues to shape U.S. politics heading into 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • 67% of Americans say the country is “on the wrong track.”

  • Majorities across all racial groups express pessimism about the U.S. direction.

  • Both political parties and Trump are viewed as out of touch with voters’ concerns.

Who could have known that Trump was lying during the campaign? Other than everyone listening to the convicted felon. Elect a criminal and get a crime wave.

Trump made a great deal with Australia and you're still complaining.

I noticed some of your Aussie pals that were vocal against trump have quit the forum.

An admission of defeat?

Unfortunately for us all, he wasn't lying. He's implementing every phase of Project 2025 just like he promised during the campaign. It'll take more than God to save America.

Trump's numbers could easily be higher. The biggest problem is the inconsistency and incoherence of his policies. That, and the fact he gloats over every minor thing and also over so many things that turn out to be exaggerated or untrue.

Trump never made the deal. He needs the import of real minerals since the US has none. Try harder
