Trump Blames Democrats for Historic Government Shutdown

US president Donald Trump has pinned the blame squarely on the Democrats for a government shutdown that's on track to become the longest in history. The shutdown, which started a month ago, is nearing the 35-day record of the 2018-2019 shutdown, with no resolution apparent. Trump’s comments aim at Democrats’ refusal to agree on extending government subsidies within Obamacare, affecting over 20 million Americans.

The impasse has led to unpaid furloughs for federal workers, with active-duty military and National Guard carrying out duties without immediate pay. Millions may also miss their food stamp benefits as the shutdown lingers. Trump’s lack of a plan to tackle rising health care costs under Obamacare further complicates negotiations, as Democrats push to secure subsidies.

Trump claims Republicans are consistently voting to end the shutdown while attributing the stalemate to Democrats, whom he calls “crazed lunatics.” He remains critical of Obamacare, suggesting it offers poor health care at excessive costs. He believes Democrats should "let the country open," asserting that the system could be improved together once the shutdown ends.

Looking forward, Trump hinted at the possibility of using the “nuclear option” to end the filibuster, though Senate Majority Leader John Thune opposes this move. Trump maintains the belief that Democrats will eventually agree to end the shutdown, though no forthcoming meetings at the White House have been planned.

The discussion occurred during Trump’s first 60 Minutes interview in five years, following a legal battle with CBS’s parent company over a previous interview with Kamala Harris.

Key Takeaways

  • The shutdown is close to breaking records, affecting millions.
  • Democrats and Republicans remain at a stalemate over Obamacare.
  • Trump hints at the “nuclear option” but faces opposition.

  • According to Trump the most corrupt president in history he's always right about everything so never to blame for anything.  You'd need to be in his cult to believe him. Many are.

  • Trump is 100 percent correct. The Senate dems voted against the CR.

  • Bottom line the felon controls all branches in the government it’s his intransigence on the funding of the ACA that’s causing the shutdown no more no less.

Are you saying Fetterman is in the cult?  Because he's blaming the Dems, too.

He could well be when he went to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Trump's ring and align with the Republicans on issues like border security, fracking and US aids to Israel. I don't give much credence to his shutdown position. However Majorie Taylor Greene blaming his own party for the shutdown is more telling and her denunciation of his party responsibility for the shutdown.

problem is the dems are stating they are doing this deliberately to try to make trump look bad, they have stated they want the people to suffer and they have realized that their plan is failing. Even the news sites that normally push the dems(cnn etc) are starting to blame them for this and have been showing their numbers tumbling into their lowest preferred party in historic low numbers but once again we see the sycophants in here trying to push their own BS ignoring the truth, even dem congress members are starting to pull back and looking at voting with republicans to end it.

You of course have verifiable links from a reputable source to verify this for us as all? Personally I have not seen a single article that says dems are admitting to this so I'll be curious to see the articles you speak of.

It’s called the Shumer Shutdown for a reason.

Of course they won’t admit to it.  Are you that ignorant?

The incumbent President blames the other party for the annual threatened or actual government shutdown. How is this news? If someone was surprised, then I suppose it is news.

Unfortunately, even though the GOP controls the House, Senate, and has the Presidency - they remain incapable of effective governance.

Effective governing requires negotiation and compromise, neither of which the current Administration understands.  Apparently, neither do the "Make Americans Goobers Again" fanbois understand that very simple principle.

Not surprisingly, then, despite Trump's claims to the contrary, a majority of Americans blame Trump and the Republicans for the shutdown.

Trump now holds the records for the two longest government shutdowns in history.

Of course he does.  Who is really to blame?  The entire Congress (both sides of the aisles) and the Administration for fomenting the shutdown.  Nobody, and I mean nobody, in DC gives a rip about the American people.  We are all just used as pawns in a game of thrones.

Good idea. Blame the  democrats (who are not in power, nor do they have a majority in the house or senate)  or anybody else.

But NEVER blame Trump or the republicans for anything that goes wrong.

However more and more US citizens are blaming Trump.

Trump takes the blame for lacking leadership in this shutdown saga. He admitted his lack of leadership when he said this.

A government shutdown falls on president's lack of leadership'

Everyone knows The Dems are to blame for this.

Bitter, vitriolic leftists who care nothing for the American people. No wonder Trump won a landslide.

Shumer and his democrats are holding it up.

One of the reasons is they want back the money that was used for bribes and special interest disguised as aid when Musk put an end to the wasteful corruption.

It doesn't matter,  The GOP hold all parts of the government.  They are blamed for the shutdown.  Tonight's results show that, and even Trump has admitted it.

Trump has to stick to the Project 2025 plan to hobble the federal workforce using the shutdown as the cudgel.
