Police have arrested four Chinese nationals in Bangkok who allegedly used artificial intelligence to commit sophisticated online scams, including a method where “AI deceives AI.” The suspects reportedly fled from Cambodia and were found operating from a condominium on Sukhumvit Soi 16, Khlong Toei district. Authorities seized dozens of electronic devices and illegal drugs during the raid.

The operation took place on 9 November 2025 following orders from National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet. A team led by senior officers including Pol. Gen. Thana Chuawong, Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Phuridej, and Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom executed a search warrant issued by the Criminal Court (Warrant No. K.124/2568, dated 8 November 2025). The officers from multiple police divisions, including Thonglor Police Station and Metropolitan Division 5, entered the condo and discovered a fully equipped “war room.”

Items seized included four computers (two desktops and two laptops), 60 mobile phones, two bags of crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The suspects, identified as Xiahou Xin, 29; Liu Ming, 28; Li Lei, 22 and Zeng Lingquan, 21, all Chinese nationals, were charged with participating in a transnational criminal organisation, illegal possession of Category 1 narcotics and being members of an unlawful association.

Investigations revealed that the group had developed a new technique using AI-generated videos to bypass digital identity checks. By manipulating static images of victims’ faces, the system produced animated clips that mimicked natural movements such as blinking, speaking and turning. These AI-generated clips were then used to fool banks and cryptocurrency platforms’ KYC (Know Your Customer) systems, allowing criminals to access financial accounts or launder money undetected.

Police said the suspects had only recently arrived from Cambodia after law enforcement there intensified operations against large-scale scam networks. The crackdown in Cambodia, involving international coordination, has caused many such groups to relocate operations into neighbouring countries, including Thailand. Officers uncovered evidence that linked the suspects to financial transactions routed through Cambodian networks.

Following intelligence gathered by Thai police, undercover officers posing as building maintenance staff confirmed suspicious activities inside the condominium before securing the search warrant. During the raid, police acted swiftly to prevent the suspects from destroying digital evidence. The computers were found still active, revealing records of financial operations related to scam activities.

Authorities announced that a press conference will be held on 10 November 2025 at 10:00 to present full details of the operation under the PCT-WARROOM IAC and MONEY CASH BACK initiatives. Further charges and investigations into the network’s wider connections are expected.

Very clearly, it isn't a safe haven!   Did you read the OP and many previous reports of scammers being arrested?
