Suvarnabhumi Airport has confirmed compliance with international security standards after an Israeli tourist was arrested in Phuket for carrying ammunition. The tourist was apprehended at Phuket International Airport on November 6, 2025, leading to inquiries about how the luggage had passed initial inspection upon arrival in Thailand on October 27, 2025.

Authorities clarified that upon entering Thailand through Suvarnabhumi Airport, the traveller transited to Phuket the same day. His itinerary included destinations like Phi Phi Island before the incident. A check of security footage and screening records showed the luggage was scanned via the Explosive Detection System (EDS) during the domestic transfer, with no suspicious items found.

Airport officials highlighted that any anomalies detected by the system would trigger immediate alerts and manual baggage rechecks. Suvarnabhumi Airport emphasized its strict adherence to international standards, utilizing a certified Hold Baggage Screening System. This system is accredited by both the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC).

The airport reassured that security systems are regularly inspected by domestic and international agencies and confirmed that the arrest in Phuket took place after the traveller had been in Thailand for several days. The matter is now under investigation, with Suvarnabhumi reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high security standards.

Key Takeaways

  • Suvarnabhumi Airport asserts all baggage screenings met security standards.
  • The arrested tourist entered Thailand more than a week before the incident.
