  • Good, as this is highly abused. Get a proper visa or find another place to “visit”.

Visa exempt entry for 60 days for anyone - What could possibly go wrong? Continue ban on alcohol sales and start fining tourists having a drink 10K Baht - What could possibly go wrong? Allow

  • Looks like good bye overnight visa runs - oh! what a bummer for some people.

Anyone knows what happens if one gets refused entry when arriving from a nearby country (Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam)? - Will you have to fly back there, or your home country?

During the previous week, there's been reports about a Chinese man on an Elite visa arrested for running a huge financial scam and someone on an Ed visa arrested for selling cocaine.

I suggest scrapping the Elite visa altogether and reducing all Ed visas to 3 months. That's more than enough time to master the Thai language so is overly generous.

Sensible policies for a sensible Thailand 🤔

There you go. An Aussie Youtuber who was here by the seat of his pants was denied entry from Vietnam. His motorbike and other worldly goods are still in Jomtien.  It's important to note that he wasn't blacklisted and will be permitted to enter when he has the correct visa.

I have a friend who has visited 10 times this year already, from his own country (UK), never had a visa, never stays more than 2 weeks, and been doing it for years

Never been questioned at immigration, I have suggested at least get a TR for his trip next week

What do you guys think? I would say around 160 days in total so far this year.

Necessary for what, after all the fk ups over the past 10 years (the nonsense started back in 2015 with visa crack downs, a year after the coup), they will end up with only much more empty hotels, less rented real estate and more empty activities, restaurants and bars as a consequence. Shops are done since ecommerce exist already too, so what will actually be left at that point? Just the beaches and national parks essentially.

We all know they know too, and after a crackdown round they will start from 0 again to allow everyone in. Same with selling land on islands. Most people arrested for working illegal etc in recent weeks news down south, were all released the same day to continue. Try the same thing in Chiang Mai and you would be blacklisted for 10 years or life as well deported.

This time feels different, as it seems like a reaction to the Israeli and Russian making themselves noticed and unpopular.

Simple addition exercise, 60 days visa-exempt entry + 30 days extension x 2 times a year = 180 days = you're technically a tax liable person residing in Thailand.

Most tourists don't have more than 5 weeks holiday so 45 days visa exempt entry would suffice. Without the fairly strict immigration control Thailand would be overwhelmed by overstayers, deadbeats and criminals.

Nothing much wrong with behavoured overstayers which of course should be discouraged but deadbeats and criminals - round them all up and kick them out pronto.

The number of Russian and Israelis  implicated in serious crime is exaggerated on social media.   Incidents as a proportion of their overall numbers in Thailand is not significant.  The number of Chinese,  Vietnamese, Filipino and South Koreans implicated in serious crimes particularly financial, cyber and physical assault is much more significant.  The  Israelis and Russians have never been "popular" with some westerners, and whenever the Russians or Israelis are implicated in an incident, it offers an opportunity  to  make negative comments about them.

what "abuse" ?

ive been on a medical retirement so i didnt qualify for retirement visa until the last few years,

until then it was border runs or education visa.

am i not worthy of living in thailand because im not 50 years or older ?

Which is why the second extension in a year is only 7 days instead of 30.

Check the video link a couple of posts down from yours.

The Aussie was detained in a dormitory type of room with others like him for 1k baht per night. He had to book a flight either back to Vietnam (from whence he came) or Australia.  Vietnam refused him entry and he was detained in the Saigon airport until he booked a flight to Singapore.  He opted to go back to Australia from there.

People who are refused entry are not blacklisted and can enter Thailand once they obtain the appropriate visa.

That's for the Thais to decide, not you or the AN board.

That's what I would have said 30 years ago, before the advent of internet and remote working... 😆

Ignorance or plain stupidity?

A Pattaya agent goes over a few changes in this video.  It sounds like people are held for 2 nights in BKK and if they haven't booked a flight out they're transfered to IDC.  He says in the video that people are sent back to where their flight originated from, so you can't just go to the Philippines or Cambodia unless that's where you came from.

There's some unpleasant news in there about rental contracts with foreign owners that could complicate a few people's lives.  It would have affected me last year.

The Education Visa is for 3 months but can be extended for up to one year, with extensions granted every 90 days depending on the program.

Absolute nonsense about mastering the Thai language (reading/writing  inclusive) in 3 months.

However, I think an individuals progress should be reviewed as part of the extension process to weed out any gaming of the system .

Thanks, but I'm not using Facebook, nor do I have account there (deleted it years ago). Too many conflicting comments and claims.

I'm keeping to sources, Thai immigration, visa agents who know the rules inside and out, and youtubers who have been around a while, with a good reputation.

The second link you posted is in my opinion not gonna happen (didn't read it though, but I think I understand from the headline..), there is nothing suggesting they're changing to the old (but never enforced) suggestion, 90 days maximum in any 180 days period. Won't happen, in my opinion.

We will see how this lands, but the claim above of maximum 90 days in a year, is obviously not true.

Thailand needs tourism, and they won't cut both of their legs, and end up with their tourists flocking around other neighbouring countries instead.

I read through it and turns out his "proof" you can't stay over 90 days was a guy who was trying for this THIRD visa exempt entry this calendar year (maxed out on extensions), lived here continuously throughout Covid on Covid Exemptions, was on some kind of either ED or work visa before that, has a condo here, and has been living in Thailand like this for the past decade.

Very much so, but then again they like the yourist money.

I asked an agency yesterday. They told me that they have halted selling visa runs, and that the precise application rules will be known only early December.

The negative attention has triggered more scrutiny, this think this may lead to a lot of people keeping a low profile...

Well, my financials allows a maximum stay of 4 weeks annually. The rent at home has to be paid too. I do hope to be able to repatriate to Thailand in 3-5 years.

Yeah, but technically overstayers are breaking the law. I think Thailand has a fair system for fining accidental overstays. Longe term overstayers are often ends up working illegally or committing other crimes.

I never applied for a visa extension, thanks for the info 👍

What makes someone a visa runner? I mean I’ve entered Thailand many times visa exempt for a holiday, a couple of times this year actually, but I’ve always flown home to Australia in between. I’ve never left Thailand to reset via visa exempt status.

The last time I came back to Thailand was on a non-o marriage visa, our daughter was recently born and there were complications so I wasn’t able to extend for a year because I had to spend over 400,000 baht to save my daughters life. So I was planning to leave and go to Phu Quoc for a couple of days and then come back to Bangkok visa exempt to be with my wife and daughter for 60 days before applying for a one year non-O. I can’t justify spending so much money to go back to Australia for a short period when I have a newborn.

Will they see me as someone doing a border run if I do this and not allow me back in to be with my family? I am so stressed.

Why not get your Non-O visa in Vietnam?

Have you thought about an extension based marriage?

I don’t want to be away from my daughter while I wait for the Thai government to approve it

yep, I went to chaeng wattana to get a 60 day extension. My wife couldn’t come because of our newborn and there was already complications with her lungs when she was born so we don’t want to expose her to hundreds of people for hours in immigration. The immigration officer I spoke to was extremely rude and despite me having literally every document I could bring she wouldn’t look at any of them because my wife wasn’t with me. I explained the baby and she was just like “too bad”.
