Using Fixed Deposit at CW for O Marriage Ext

Featured Replies

I keep the 400k in a simple passbook accident which draws effectively no interest.

There seems to be a gray area using fixed accounts.

Preparing my extension this year again notice on the checklist that a fixed account is listed. It's an old checklist

Is anyone using a fixed account specifically at CW BKK?

Can anyone report problems or non issues?

May make a difference for retired folks or married based on pickiness of IO. The specific checklist I have is old and is specifically for the marriage extension.

I'm really interested in your personal experience not anecdotal information

Thanks for your input

Okay in thailand there are TWO types of "fixed/term accounts" you can get at banks but only ONE of them is allowed

There is a fixed account where you can access the principle funds at any time (even though you might get penalty or lose interest) and that type IS allowed to be used for proof of funds using banked money method on extensions
THEN
There's a "term deposit" where the principle is locked in the account for the term of the deposit and you cannot access it only the accrued interest from it and this time IS NOT allowed to be used for proof of funds using banked money method on extensions

You would still need the "standard bank letter" the 2 months detail transaction report (even though it won't show any activity but interest in) and update the bank book the day you apply (which again won't show anything but the last interest deposit into the account)

Thanks for this gold. The explanation is excellent.

When you say the transaction detail report. I've always just provided them with the passbook and it's never been a problem... not a print out of the transactions between X and y dates. Ok?

Thanks and I won't follow up. Much appreciated

that "detail transaction report" has been a requirement for a good while now because no one updates their bank books regularly enough to capture every transaction, and most only print summary of money in money out since the last update.

Now whether you will need one on a fixed deposit account OR just the updated bank book will be enough is anyone's guess.. I would say, do what you've always been doing and see how it goes 🙂

At CW using an FD account all that should be required is phopy of pages.

When I was using an FD account at CW I always made deposit on day of application.

A bummer was that min deposit for many FD accounts is 1000b.

Personally I would not bother with Bank statement.

Keep in mind you also provide Bank Letter. This can be obtained prior to day of application.

Be aware that Kasikorn has closed their CW branch.

Thanks for that

Not to belabor the point

Exactly as I handle it 👍

I'm now with BBL although I still have one SCB account and krungsri

I never had love for k bank

I can't help but feel walls closing in on us

Thx again

Why have an account with no interests ? you can open a Mee Tae Dai account with the Krungsri bank

( aka yellow bank ) that pays 0.9% per month, better than nothing, That's 360b a month nearly a box of beer  :burp: :clap2:also they produce your statement and letter for immigration in 15min max.

Wait, what? I am confused now. I have a saving account in Kasikorn bank and keep the 400k thb there. I am to extend my marriage non-O visa in mid-January.

How can I check if I am OK with this type of account?
