Man Posing as Cop Threatens Woman With Fake Explicit Videos

A Thai woman has reported a disturbing case of online extortion after a man posing as a senior police officer threatened to release fabricated explicit videos of her. The incident, which took place in Satun province, prompted immediate concern among her followers after she publicly shared evidence of the harassment. Police in La-ngu have since confirmed the impersonator is not connected to the force and have identified a suspect.

The victim, Yaowarate Madtrakate, a social media content creator with more than 50,000 Facebook followers, accepted a friend request from a profile under the name Police Colonel Nathee Todting. The account appeared genuine, showing a police rank and several mutual contacts. She later told Channel 7 on 20 November that she accepted the request hoping to expand her audience.

Shortly after connecting, the individual claimed to possess explicit footage of Yaowarate and threatened to release it unless she complied with his demands. He warned her not to block him and sent a video featuring another woman in an attempt to convince her. Yaowarate rejected the claim and confronted him, but the threats escalated as he demanded sexual favours and insisted he had recordings of her.

She later posted screenshots of the conversation on her Facebook page to alert others to the impersonation attempt. Several of her followers then informed her that they had also been contacted by the same account using similar extortion tactics. Concern grew as the man publicly posted a screenshot of his exchange with Yaowarate on his own profile.

The impersonator demanded 2,000 baht and sent a bank QR code when she refused to pay. Officers at La-ngu Police Station verified that no person named Nathee Todting was listed in police records and confirmed the profile was fraudulent. Investigators have since established the identity of the suspect using the account.

Police stated that the man would be summoned for questioning and will face legal proceedings. The case has raised wider concerns about online impersonation and increasing attempts to extort social media influencers. It also highlights the need for users to scrutinise unsolicited contact, even from profiles that appear credible.

The Thaiger reported that further action will depend on the suspect’s response to the police summons and the progress of the investigation. Authorities are expected to take action under laws covering impersonation, coercion and extortion. Yaowarate continues to warn her followers to remain vigilant.

Excepting a friend that you don't know, always a great idea.

That's why I dumped FB years ago.

Definately fake, no self respecting Thai Cop would only ask for 2000 baht, they start at least 200,000 baht.
