Heavy fighting has erupted in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region, where resistance forces say they killed 35 junta soldiers during a prolonged clash near Ponna village in Wetlet Township.

According to Mizzima, the battle began at around 8:30 a.m. on 23 November when revolutionary units engaged a column of more than 120 troops from Light Infantry Battalion 11 and Infantry Battalion 42 under Division 33. The confrontation lasted nearly ten hours.

Shwebo District Battalion 1 reported that weapons including MA rifles, MG-3 machine guns, RPGs, sniper rifles and mortars were seized during the engagement. The attack was coordinated by multiple battalions alongside the Wetlet Township People’s Defence Force, the Hanlin District PDF and allied local groups.

While the resistance claims significant casualties and captured equipment, Mizzima noted it has not been able to independently verify the figures.

The clash highlights the intensity of ongoing conflict in Sagaing, a stronghold of anti-junta resistance, where local defence forces continue to mount operations against military columns despite heavy crackdowns.
