Pope Leo: Palestinian state 'only' solution to Israeli conflict

Featured Replies

ABOARD THE PAPAL FLIGHT TO BEIRUT, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Pope Leo said on Sunday that the only solution in the decades-long conflict between Israel and the Palestinian people must include a Palestinian state, reaffirming the Vatican's position.

"We all know that at this time Israel still does not accept that solution, but we see it as the only solution," Leo, the first U.S. pope, told journalists on a flight from Turkey to Lebanon during his first in-flight press conference.

"We are also friends with Israel and we are seeking to be a mediating voice between the two parties that might help them close in on a solution with justice for everyone," added the pope, speaking in Italian.

Well, he might have some impact on US policy.

But let`s not forget that around 78-90 million people, making up roughly 23-30% of the adult population in the US are the very pro-Israel Evangelicals.

They believe Israel's existence fulfills biblical prophecy, viewing the return of Jews to their land as a sign of end-times, leading to the Second Coming of Jesus and the establishment of His kingdom, making them strong supporters of the Jewish state.

The Christians United for Israel (CUFI) is the largest pro-Israel organization in the United States, with over 10 million members, educating and empowering millions of Americans to speak and act with one voice in defense of Israel and the Jewish people.

Think about it, there are more members in one pro-Israel organization than Israelis!! Or than Jews living in the US!!

Now THAT is what I call perfect PR.

What will happen when those Evangelicals find out one day that many if not most Jewish Americans have no intentions to relocate to Israel?

Or if they find out what those Israelis who are as much religious as the Evangelicals really think about Jesus and Christians and that they might spit at them if they visit some holy places in Israel.

I've seen the videos but don't understand why Jews spot at Christians in Israel, the birthplace of Jesus the Christ.

I am surprised that you don`t know this.

As a matter of fact, it was the Jews and their leaders who wanted Jesus dead as they saw him as a threat to their religion.

Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, despite finding Jesus innocent, following pressure from Jewish leaders (e.g., High Priest Caiaphas) , condemned him to appease the crowd and Jewish authorities.

On his way to Golgotha, where he was crucified many Jews spat on him.

Until today Jews or the Jewish religion see Jesus as a liar and a fraud and definitely not the Messiah as he did not fulfill the messianic prophecies, which include ushering in an age of universal peace, rebuilding the Temple, and ingathering Jews to Israel

He is also seen as a false prophet as Jesus does not meet their criteria.

His claims of divinity are seen as contradictory to Jewish monotheism.

Jews despise the concept of God incarnate or the Son of God as it is considered idolatry in Judaism and violates the absolute singularity of God.

Christians are seen as worshippers of a false god or worse.

The reason they spit on Christians is a way to express disdain for an idolatry which sprang from Judaism and show disgust for Christians to get away from the impurity of this person.

And yet Millions of Christians support and almost worship them, by sending money and weapons, not realizing - despite in plain sight - that they are betraying their own religion and their own Messiah because Israel is acting completely opposite to what the bible teaches and Judaism despises Jesus.

Again, THAT is what I call perfect PR.

It never ends with you, including the promotion of the jews killed jesus crap.

The Catholic charade has lots of shame and scandals , bet this Pope is no exception - would never take advice from a man who dresses like a wizard and won't have sex with a woman.

Then you tell us why orthodox Jews spit at Christians.

A small number of people who are of the jewish faith, typically belonging to small ultra religious sects is not representative of the jewish faith. There is absolutely no religious basis for spitting on anyone or anything. The excuse of following an ancient superstition was offered to explain the inexcusable behaviour and was rejected by the government , court, the religious governing body and the Israeli public. The orthodox rabbinate has strongly condemned the practice and has said that it is a wrongful act.

The incident occurred during the evangelical crusade to convert Jews. The presence of various missionary groups seeking to convert jews is high pressure during certain periods of the year in Israel, and generated a hostile response. The people who were responsible were arrested, charged and convicted of assault.

A more lengthy explanation is set out out here https://www.bnaibrith.org/israels-missionary-problem-jns/

Oh look, the Jews killed Christ. His blood is on their hands, and all of their descendants. Got it.

Its the middle ages all over again! You want to burn "witches" too I bet LOL

How does that contradict what I wrote?

I wrote that Judaism generally does not see Jesus as a prophet, let alone the son of god or as the Messiah therefore Christians are idol worshippers in their eyes.

That plus the increasing pressure from evangelical Christians to convert lead to most of the Jews refuse conversion and a few very devout believers react aggressively by spitting at them.

This is from the same article you posted:

"Attempts to convert the Jews constitute an aggressive, predatory, and ultimately, exterminatory attack on Judaism. Alarmingly, in recent years there has been an upsurge in such activities in Israel.

More pertinent still, the world’s civilizational disorders have provoked an increasing belief among a number of evangelical Christians that the messianic age is now imminent—an apocalyptic fervor that, for such believers, makes the conversion of the Jews increasingly urgent.

which causes a dilemma for many Jews as ...

"Yet it is also undeniable that Christian Zionists are among the most passionate supporters of Israel in the world, and are largely responsible for U.S. support for the Jewish state."

Or in other words: "Those double idol lovers who worship a fraudster, who was one of us AND a country which exclusively belongs to us and now try to convert us are a pain in the a**, but as long as they make their government send us Billions of their tax money every year, we should not be spitting at them."

By the way, I am not an expert but HE surely knows what he is talking about:

From an explanation why some ultraorthodox Jews spit on Christians to blood stained Jewish hands directly to the dark ages and to witch barbecue.

Impressive!

Now that you´re asking, no, I feel no urge to burn witches but would you mind sharing some of the stuff you´re smoking?🤪
