Hun Manet Urges Thailand to Stick to Peaceful Border Talks

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has urged Thailand to honour its own claims of being a peace‑loving nation, calling on Bangkok to abandon the use of military force and return to agreed mechanisms for resolving long‑running border disputes.

In a message posted on Monday evening, Hun Manet said Thai leaders frequently present their country as one that respects international law. He argued that this stance sits uneasily with recent statements from Thailand’s 1st Army Area, which announced plans to use force to “reclaim” what it considers Thai sovereign territory. The declaration included references to artillery fire and troop mobilisation near Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages in Banteay Meanchey province.

“If Thailand truly loves peace and values its land as Cambodia does, then the Thai government and military should adhere to peaceful settlement mechanisms,” he wrote, stressing that military action against civilian areas cannot be justified under international law.

Hun Manet said Cambodia has consistently respected the sovereignty of neighbouring states and expects the same in return. He noted that both countries have spent more than two decades working through the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), relying on historical documents dating back to the French colonial era to guide demarcation.

Recent cooperation, he added, has been productive. Joint survey teams have been deployed to border segments in Banteay Meanchey and Battambang, with temporary markers between boundary pillars 52 and 59 now almost fully installed. Work between pillars 42 and 47 is also progressing “smoothly” and in line with agreed technical procedures.

Against this backdrop, Hun Manet said the Thai military’s threat to use force in the same areas contradicts the spirit of the JBC’s work and undermines the legal framework both sides have committed to.

He appealed directly to Bangkok to continue resolving border issues through lawful, transparent means. Cambodia, he said, has no intention of violating any neighbour’s sovereignty and will respect the results of joint surveys. He expressed hope that Thailand would show the same sincerity.

The comments come amid heightened tensions along the border, where recent clashes and military movements have raised fears of further escalation.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Sorry Mr. Manet, but your insane father is a major provacateur and is stirring the pot. You should have a discussion with this madman, thieving, greedy freak instead.

Bring Hun to his knees.  They are finding out.  FAFO

So, dear Hun Manet, why have rockets from peace-loving Cambodia been raining down on my town (Prasat Surin) and on my partner's home village & hospital (Phanom Dong Rak) for the last several days?

With respect, in response to Thai military firing from fighter aircraft and shelling towns and villages within Cambodia which is quite rightly defending its own sovereignty and people.

Tell your local Thai military commanders to stop firing on Cambodia and Cambodia will stop firing on you, the country believes in peace - simple!

No further comment from me.
