A 19-year-old man was injured after being attacked with a knife by his mother during a mental health episode in Sattahip district, Chon Buri province, on Thursday, 18 December 2025, at about 1.30pm. The incident caused alarm among residents after the victim was left bleeding heavily and had to be rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.

Rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanathammasathan Foundation responded to an emergency call reporting a knife attack in a lane behind Sahachai Market, Moo 5, Sattahip subdistrict. On arrival, they found Mr Phatcharachai, aged 19, in a distressed state with slash wounds to his mouth and left arm, with significant blood loss at the scene. He was given first aid before being transferred to Somdej Phra Nang Chao Sirikit Hospital, Naval Medical Department, for further treatment.

According to Mr Phatcharachai, his mother has a long-standing mental illness and frequently suffers from episodes of paranoia and agitation. Shortly before the attack, she was holding a knife inside the house, prompting him to intervene out of concern that she might harm herself or others. When he tried to take the knife away, she became more aggressive, mistakenly believing he intended to attack her and chased him with the weapon.

The victim said he was struck several times before managing to flee the house and seek help from neighbours. Residents in the area told police that the woman’s condition has flared up repeatedly in the past and that she is often seen carrying a knife outside her home or in public areas. They said her behaviour has caused fear among people living nearby and those passing through the narrow lane.

Police later arrived and were able to calm the woman and bring the situation under control without further injuries. Officers coordinated with medical personnel to have her transferred for psychiatric treatment in line with established procedures. Authorities also instructed relatives to strengthen supervision and care arrangements to prevent further violent incidents that could endanger family members or the wider community.

Naewna reported that investigations confirmed that no other individuals were injured and the case is being handled as a medical and welfare matter rather than a criminal one at this stage. Officials stressed the importance of continued treatment and close monitoring to reduce the risk of similar incidents occurring again.
