Ramsar listing for Koh Kra sought

Archipelago home to 400 rai of coral reefs

By Kultida Samabuddhi

The Marine and Coastal Resources Department is pushing for the Koh Kra archipelago off Nakhon Si Thammarat to be listed as one of the world's important marine wetlands under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. If successful, Koh Kra archipelago will become the country's 11th wetlands designated as internationally important under the convention.

Located about 65km from Laem Talumphuk in Pak Phanang district, the archipelago, comprising three small islands, is surrounded by up to 400 rai of coral reefs.

The rest can be found here in the Bangkok Post

Koh Kra is also an important sea turtle breeding ground so any protection would be a good thing.
