January 7Jan 7 US President Donald Trump and his administration are once more in the spotlight for actively discussing the possibility of purchasing Greenland, a Danish territory. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed this, stating that Trump's national security team is currently discussing the idea. Both Greenland and Denmark have consistently declared that the territory is not for sale, reiterating their stance in response to these renewed talks. Previously, the Trump administration expressed openness to all options, including the use of military force, but Trump emphasised diplomacy as his preferred approach.Tensions around Greenland's future have heightened following Trump's recent military action in Venezuela, raising alarm among NATO allies, including Denmark. The strategic importance of Greenland to the US lies in its early warning systems for missile attacks and monitoring purposes due to its location between North America and the Arctic. There's also increasing interest in Greenland's untapped resources like rare earth minerals, uranium, and the potential for oil and gas reserves.Next week, as the debate over Greenland intensifies, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will hold talks with Denmark. The discussions re-examine Trump's 2019 proposal to buy the island, a proposal that also faced rejection. Leavitt emphasised that the US views acquiring Greenland as beneficial for countering Russia's and China's presence in the Arctic region.French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed that Rubio dismissed any invasion ideas in a phone call. Meanwhile, European leaders have united in support of Denmark, asserting that decisions about Greenland rest solely with its people and Denmark. They emphasised collective security through NATO and adherence to the UN Charter's principles. In a symbolic twist, Katie Miller, associated with the Trump administration, shared an image of Greenland with the US flag's colours online, echoing sentiments about US ambitions. Some in Greenland remain indifferent. Aleqatsiaq Peary, a local Inuit hunter, remarked on the shifting dynamics of colonial influence while expressing concerns over environmental changes affecting livelihoods, reported the BBC.Key Takeaways:Trump's administration is actively exploring the purchase of Greenland.Denmark and Greenland have reiterated the territory is not for sale.Strategic and resource interests drive the US discussions on Greenland.Related stories:Hands Off Greenland! But he is the cult leader of a specifically American flavor of fascism.
January 8Jan 8 Popular Post Not even the 8.000 tons of gold the US doesn't have , would be enough for the sale.Denmark would be a fool to accept printed IOU's (usd) for it.
January 8Jan 8 Nothing new with the bully attitude of America that has been there long before Trump. On the other hand why not ? When one sees in dismay, how must of the other nations in Europe or in the world are always bootlicking America...

It belongs to the Greenlanders. (That's according to a Politico article)I'd bet Greenlanders would vote to sell the rights to plant the US flag for $1 million each and US citizenship. With 57,000 of them, that's around $57 billion all-in.

Trump is simply stirring the distraction pot from domestic policy failures.

January 8Jan 8 Popular Post The purchase idea will be a no go. Had Trump not blustered and threatened, then an expanded US presence with more control over Greenland and its territorial waters, which this is all about, no doubt could easily have been negotiated. As is, there is no way for the Danes to back down after Trump's threats.

But the people of Greenland should vote on that. Also, that statement would come as a shock to many the Europeans in Thailand who are sweating bullets to come up with the $12,000 USD for their marriage extension, or the $25K USD for their retirement extension. Their lives would be changed. And Greenlanders who would have to filet boatloads of hagfish to scrape together a million smackeroos. So many boatloads that they don't really have an expectation that they'll ever be millionaires.
