Both Greenland and Denmark have consistently declared that the territory is not for sale, reiterating their stance in response to these renewed talks. Previously, the Trump administration expressed openness to all options, including the use of military force, but Trump emphasised diplomacy as his preferred approach.

Tensions around Greenland's future have heightened following Trump's recent military action in Venezuela, raising alarm among NATO allies, including Denmark. The strategic importance of Greenland to the US lies in its early warning systems for missile attacks and monitoring purposes due to its location between North America and the Arctic. There's also increasing interest in Greenland's untapped resources like rare earth minerals, uranium, and the potential for oil and gas reserves.

Next week, as the debate over Greenland intensifies, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will hold talks with Denmark. The discussions re-examine Trump's 2019 proposal to buy the island, a proposal that also faced rejection. In a symbolic twist, Katie Miller, associated with the Trump administration, shared an image of Greenland with the US flag's colours online, echoing sentiments about US ambitions. Some in Greenland remain indifferent. Aleqatsiaq Peary, a local Inuit hunter, remarked on the shifting dynamics of colonial influence while expressing concerns over environmental changes affecting livelihoods, reported the BBC.

Last time around, Denmark claimed that they didn't have the right to sell Greenland. It belongs to the Greenlanders. (That's according to a Politico article)

I'd bet Greenlanders would vote to sell the rights to plant the US flag for $1 million each and US citizenship. With 57,000 of them, that's around $57 billion all-in.

The purchase idea will be a no go. Had Trump not blustered and threatened, then an expanded US presence with more control over Greenland and its territorial waters, which this is all about, no doubt could easily have been negotiated. As is, there is no way for the Danes to back down after Trump's threats.

Maybe, maybe not. But the people of Greenland should vote on that.

Also, that statement would come as a shock to many the Europeans in Thailand who are sweating bullets to come up with the $12,000 USD for their marriage extension, or the $25K USD for their retirement extension. Their lives would be changed. And Greenlanders who would have to filet boatloads of hagfish to scrape together a million smackeroos. So many boatloads that they don't really have an expectation that they'll ever be millionaires.
