A Chinese national was left critically injured after falling from height at a hotel in Pattaya late on Friday night, prompting an urgent emergency response. Police said the man sustained severe injuries and was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition. An investigation is under way to determine whether the incident was an accident or involved other factors.

The incident was reported at 11.10pm on 9 January 2026, when officers from Pattaya City Police Station, received a call about a man who had fallen from a height at a hotel in Soi Ko Phai 4. Police coordinated with Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit in Pattaya and a medical team from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, who arrived swiftly to provide emergency assistance.

The hotel is a seven-storey building and the injured man was found on the ground floor car park area in a storage space containing equipment and paint cans. He was identified only as a Chinese man aged approximately 30 to 40, with no identification documents found at the scene. Rescue workers reported that he was barely breathing, had fractures to both legs and suffered injuries to his back.

After receiving first aid at the scene, the man was transferred urgently to a nearby hospital for further treatment. His condition was described as serious and medical staff placed him in intensive care upon arrival.

A nearby witness, Ms Arunkamon Rasita, 43, who runs a papaya salad stall in front of the hotel, told police she heard a loud impact while selling food. She initially thought a paint can had fallen before noticing hotel staff running to check the area and subsequently contacting rescue services.

Investigators from the police detective unit conducted a detailed examination of the scene and questioned three Chinese men who were staying in the same room as the injured man. Authorities said they are gathering evidence and witness statements to establish the exact circumstances of the fall. Police confirmed inquiries will continue to determine whether the incident was accidental or involved other causes.

Presuming they were present, throwing people off balconies and out of windows has a long history in Chinese culture, particularly during the violent Cultural Revolution.

Doubtless we will hear about the mythical low railings in Thailand again.

Except that they're not mythical. A lot of buildings in Thailand have railings that would be banned in the nanny world. If that's what you are accustomed to, it's not a big risk. If you are accustomed to 1st world building standards, you can get bit in the ass leaning out over a low railing.

This is just not true. Lets see some pictures. And no, the pictures of those rustic cabins on one of the islands dont count
