January 11Jan 11 Insiders have informed CBS News that officials from the Trump administration will meet with their Danish counterparts on Wednesday to discuss Greenland. This unannounced meeting follows comments from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who informed Congress of President Trump's interest in acquiring the Danish territory. The White House mentioned on Tuesday that various options, including military force, are on the table for obtaining Greenland.President Trump reinforced the possibility of using force, stating, "I would like to make a deal the easy way, but if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way." Senator Tim Kaine, who recently met with Danish officials, expressed bipartisan congressional support for preventing any military action. Kaine emphasised the importance of maintaining Denmark as an ally, not adversary. In an interview with the New York Times, Trump described Greenland's acquisition as psychologically crucial for success, citing defence needs. His comments have heightened tensions with European allies, calling into question the US's commitment to European defence. Fearing that Greenland might become a pivotal issue, European diplomats pointed to a change in America's position on NATO.Governor Jeff Landry, appointed as special envoy to Greenland by Trump, highlighted US historical defence of Greenland, calling recent disputes a matter of "hospitality, not hostility." Denmark's Ambassador Jesper Møller Sørensen, however, reiterated Greenland's longstanding association with Denmark. Greenland's leadership also affirmed their desire for independence, stating they want to be "Greenlanders."The Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, signalled that any American military move could dismantle NATO. Given Denmark's NATO membership, such an attack would invoke NATO's collective defence agreement, risking a broader military conflict. "If we pursue such a path, it would be disastrous," Kaine remarked, predicting isolation for America, reported CBS News.Key TakeawaysThe Trump administration and Danish officials are meeting about Greenland.Trump suggested military force is an option for acquiring Greenland.Greenland's leadership and Denmark oppose US acquisition efforts.Related StoriesDenmark Engages US for Talks on Greenland's FutureUS “Has to Have” Greenland for National Protection, Trump Says Adapted by ASEAN Now from CBS News 2026-01-12

While the phrase is a common trope in crime films, its use in real-life negotiations, particularly in a high-stakes or formal context, implies an intent to use leverage, coercion, or even force if the preferred option (the "easy way") is not accepted. The "hard way" implies undesirable consequences for the other party.C'mon MAGA, wake up!

Greenland is useless without Canada, it's only 16 miles away whereas the USA is 750 miles away.

January 14Jan 14 Anybody wonder where this Greenland idea came from? I don't think Trump came up with it while reading back issues of National Geographic. No, apparently it was this guy who put the bug in his ear, although Trump is now claiming full credit for coming up with it. As New York Times journalist Peter Baker and New Yorker writer Susan Glasser reported in their book The Divider, an unexpected friend of Trump’s planted the idea: Ronald Lauder of Estée Lauder, the $29 billion makeup brand. The cosmetics billionaire reportedly pitched Trump on buying Greenland—though by 2019, Trump was claiming it as his own brainchild. According to the Times, Lauder “offered himself as a back channel to the Danish government to negotiate.” https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/01/why-buy-greenland-trump-annex-ronald-lauder-manifest-destiny/
