The Immigration Bureau has arrested Jack Yang, also known as Yang or “Yang Yang”, a 41-year-old Chinese national accused of being a top-tier commander in a transnational online scam network that allegedly defrauded victims of nearly 900 million baht. The arrest took place in Chonburi province after authorities confirmed he had changed his name and nationality to evade international arrest warrants. Officials said his detention marks a significant breakthrough against cross-border cybercrime groups using Thailand as a hideout.

The operation followed an intensified policy by Pol Lt Gen Phanumart Boonyalak, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, and Pol Maj Gen Phanthana Nuchanart, Deputy Commissioner, to target transnational criminals sheltering in Thailand. Senior officers from Immigration Division 3 coordinated intelligence and deployed investigators and information technology resources across key tourist areas in central and eastern Thailand. Intelligence indicated that a high-value fugitive linked to an international crime syndicate had been hiding in Chonburi since late 2025.

After the Covid-19 period in 2022, international law enforcement began tracking Yang as a key figure in major online fraud cases in China. Investigations revealed that he operated from Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao, the Philippines, running schemes that lured victims into downloading online gambling applications. Victims were initially allowed to withdraw small profits before being persuaded to invest more, after which the applications were shut down and funds taken, leaving more than 600 victims with losses totalling almost 900 million baht.

Yang’s name emerged repeatedly after more than 320 suspects in his network were arrested and named him as a principal organiser. He became a wanted fugitive for Interpol and law enforcement agencies in several countries but repeatedly avoided capture by Chinese and Philippine authorities. On 12 January 2026, Thai investigators used facial recognition and biometric data to confirm that Yang was the same individual as Jack Yang, a Dominican national who had entered Thailand as a tourist and was living in a housing estate in Bang Lamung district.

Thaitabloid reported that immigration officers approached him, verified his passport and identity through biometric evidence, and revoked his permission to remain in the kingdom. He was taken into custody and transferred to Immigration Bureau investigators for further legal proceedings. Authorities said the case demonstrates enhanced cooperation and technological capability in identifying fugitives using false identities.

Key Takeaways

• Immigration police arrested alleged scam leader Jack Yang in Chonburi on 12 January 2026.

• Investigators linked him to online fraud cases with over 600 victims and losses nearing 900 million baht.
