A three-year-old boy was rescued alive after falling into a 13-metre-deep groundwater well in Suphan Buri province, in an incident described by rescuers as highly unusual due to the depth and the child’s lack of injuries. The rescue took place on 15 January 2026 and concluded with the child being safely taken to hospital for observation. Authorities confirmed the boy was conscious, able to walk and showed no visible signs of serious harm.

The incident occurred at around 4.30pm on 15 January 2026, when the Samerkan Foundation rescue unit in Suphan Buri received an emergency call reporting that a child had fallen into a well. The location was a sugarcane field in Moo 6, Chaeng Ngam subdistrict, Nong Ya Sai district, Suphan Buri. The field had already been harvested, and the uncovered groundwater well was located within the area.

Rescue teams arriving at the scene found that the well was approximately 13 metres deep, posing significant risks for any fall. A crane was brought in and a rescue worker was lowered into the well to reach the child. At the bottom, they found a three-year-old boy identified as “Nong Non,” who was frightened and crying but still able to stand and speak. The child was lifted out safely within about 15 minutes and rushed to Dan Chang Hospital.

Mr Sutin Taengnim, aged 30, the rescue worker who descended into the well, said the child was visibly shaken but responsive throughout the operation. He explained that he spoke calmly to the boy to keep him alert before lifting him out. Mr Sutin said the absence of injuries was remarkable, noting that falls from such depths typically cause severe injuries even in adults.

According to Mr Sutin, the bottom of the well contained relatively soft soil, which may have helped reduce the impact of the fall. He also said that in his experience as a rescuer, this case stood out due to the child escaping without broken limbs, abrasions or other visible injuries. The boy was taken to hospital as a precaution, and doctors were expected to continue monitoring his condition.

Amarin reported that rescuers issued a safety warning to landowners and farmers with groundwater wells on their property. They urged that well openings be raised above ground level and securely covered to prevent accidents involving children or animals.
