Four people, plus an unborn child, were killed after a pickup truck carrying Lao migrant workers collided with another pickup in Sa Kaeo province. The crash occurred on the road between Khlong Hat district and Watthana Nakhon district, causing multiple injuries and prompting an emergency response. Several of the injured were reported to be in serious condition and were taken to hospital for urgent treatment.

Police said the crash happened at about 6.20pm on 18 January 2026. Officers from Khlong Hat Police Station and rescuers from the Sawang rescue unit were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a severe collision. Traffic in the area was disrupted while emergency crews worked to assist victims and clear the roadway.

At the scene, a four-door pickup was found with its front end severely damaged after colliding with another pickup. The second vehicle was being used to transport migrant workers and had suffered extensive damage. Several passengers were trapped inside, with both injured and deceased victims found in the wreckage.

Initial checks revealed that the pickup carrying the workers was transporting Lao nationals who had travelled from Chanthaburi province. The vehicle had reportedly picked up workers at several points along the route and was heading towards Nakhon Phanom province. There were 15 occupants in total, including a pregnant woman, at the time of the crash.

Rescue workers confirmed that four people died as a result of the collision, plus the unborn child. Many others were injured, with some sustaining critical injuries. First aid was provided at the scene before the injured were transported to Khlong Hat Hospital and Wang Nam Yen Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities later coordinated with relevant agencies to assist the injured and arrange transport for those involved back to Nakhon Phanom province. The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety and the transportation of large numbers of passengers in modified pickup trucks. Emergency services remained at the scene for several hours to complete recovery operations.

Amarin reported that investigators are continuing to examine the crash site and are questioning the drivers and survivors. Police said a detailed investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the collision. Legal proceedings will follow once the investigation is completed and responsibility is established.
