A dramatic incident unfolded in Samut Prakan when a man fleeing a police search jumped from the Burapha Withi Expressway and was left critically injured after landing on a pedestrian footbridge. The incident prompted an emergency response from police and rescue teams on the evening of 28 January 2026.

The man, later identified only as Mr K., aged 40, from Kamphaeng Phet province, was found severely injured on a pedestrian overpass near Bang Na–Trat Road, kilometre marker 34. Rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation provided first aid before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in serious condition under medical care.

Earlier that evening, the incident was partially captured on a mobile phone by Ms Waraporn Salangam, a food vendor at an evening market near Wat Ban Rakat. Her video showed a man wearing a red shirt sitting on the edge of the Burapha Withi Expressway inbound lane at kilometre marker 32 in Ban Rakat subdistrict, Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan. She said she recorded the clip after hearing other vendors say they saw someone sitting on the expressway edge and appearing ready to jump.

Police later confirmed that the man in the video was the same individual found injured on the footbridge. According to officers from Sai Mai Police Station, the pursuit began earlier in the Sai Mai area of Bangkok when patrol officers noticed Mr K. behaving suspiciously while stopped at traffic lights. When officers identified themselves and requested a search, he accelerated away in his pickup truck.

Police units coordinated to follow and intercept the vehicle as it entered the Burapha Withi Expressway. At kilometre marker 32, Mr K. reportedly stopped his vehicle, fled on foot, crossed to the opposite side of the expressway and then sat on the edge of the concrete barrier. Officers attempted to negotiate with him, but he threatened to jump and ignored their efforts.

At about 8pm, he jumped from the expressway and fell onto the pedestrian footbridge below, sustaining critical injuries. A subsequent background check revealed that he was wanted on two arrest warrants related to fraud cases. Police said no illegal items were found during searches of his person or vehicle.

Kaoded reported that authorities believe he fled due to fear of arrest linked to the outstanding warrants. Police have said they will formally detain him once doctors confirm he is fit to be questioned, as investigations into the incident continue.
