Brazil Nuts - where to buy in Pattaya

Featured Replies

At Tops in Central they sell them for 105 baht per 100 grams, which is quite expensive.

Is there anywhere else in Pattaya to buy them cheaper?

I buy on Lazada. Haven't compared prices recently but when I did seemed a bit cheaper than retail stores. They're a very expensive nut regardless being very laborious to harvest. Anyway, for health reasons you're not supposed to eat more than one a day, and three times a week even better. Otherwise, that's too much selenium.

This is why they shouldn’t be bought shelled as to needing a hammer to open it therefore limiting one’s intake.

I have no such problem. They're very rich.

It's a big mistake to eat a lot of them.

Any particular brand or shop recommendation on Lazada?

I've read you can eat up to 5 every day but 2 every day is the sweet spot.

One a day.

Wasn't there an EU directive preventing their sale in shells. I was told this by a UK friend that they were toxic and that Nanny state group were interfering again. Christmas was not the same without that struggle to get to the nut!

You can eat 5 or so in a day and the levels of selenium won't be too high. The problem comes when people do eat them daily. Selenium is secreted through urine, but it can stay for longer periods than a day, which is why you should limit Brazil nuts on a daily basis. A small bag of mixed nuts usually only contains a few Brazils, so eating the bag wouldn't be a problem.

OK, ordered from Lazada, will take one per day.

Hope it can replace my magnesium pills for my cramps.

My late FIL had cramps all the time, lived on the border the Burma in Chiang Mai.

Used to drink fresh water from a spring in the mountain, then some salesman convinced every one it's not healthy and have to buy water.

I drink it and tastes like spring water, every one was so convinced that I'll get sick.

Bought water, no minerals...spring water from the mountain.. Oh yeah

Did you search Lazada under their other name?

You'll have to Google it. I don't want a timeout.

Wonder what they are called in Brazil?

Brazil nuts or para nuts

This company is good for nuts and stuff. Maybe not the cheapest, but they have good packing and quality.

Lazada

Searched on Lazada. They are a lot more expensive on Lazada than buying at Tops @ Central, which is already quite expensive.

How much did you pay per 100g on Lazada?

Quite obviously I was suggesting one a day IF you eat that one a day daily. For occasional consumption, you can obviously safely have more.

Personally I have now switched to one three times a week, from one a day.

I'm not suggesting people are going to quickly keel over if they have five a day daily. Just that is known that isn't advisable.

A thought for the harvesters.

I'm sure they don't get nearly enough of a cut of what we pay for their delectable nuts!

One Brazil nut doesn't have very much magnesium so I don't understand what you're talking about.

Personally I take a rather high dose of magnesium glycinate before bedtime (along with L-Theonate not ThReonate and Apigenin) which works very well to encourage sleep.

I'm switching magnesium source soon to a 100 percent magnesium glycinate powder. I'll start with about 200 grams.

One Brazil nut has 24 grams.

Nonsensical figures 😊 A Brazil nut has 24 grams of what?

If you mean Magnesium, one Brazil nut contains around 18 to 19 mg. That's milligrams.

About a year ago I bought a 250 gram bag of Nutriris Brazil Nuts at Food Mart, but it was probably around 350 baht.

Castanha do Pará actually, Castanha do Brasil means Brazil Nuts and is not what Brazilians call them.

You are right, Sweedish Svenska köttbullar and in Norway Norske kjøttboller, but we do not claim meatballs is Norwegian, only Sweeden claims that for some strange reason.

Not really, Castanha do pará literally means Nuts from Pará ( Pará being a State in Brazil ).

Castanha de Caju means Cashew Nuts or Nuts from Cajueiro ( Cajueiro being the tree or plant native to northeastern coastal areas of Brazil ) the tree bears the caju apple, a fruit, each one has a caju nut attached to the underneath.

The fruit is commonly used for juice and the nut is poisonous until cooked.

Seen everywhere on large Brazilian coastal towns like Aracaju.

All nuts, Hazelnuts, Walnuts, Brasil or Cashew etc are referred to as Castanha except for Peanuts which are Amendoim and thought of as a legume rather than a nut.

Only American do, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish are different.

Even my grandma and my mom made different, so do I .

After 20 years in Thailand I use cocoanut milk instead of regular milk to soften the breadcrumbs, try it...

Every meatball is different, or should be.

I mix some chilli in mine, Thai ladies love my balls....
