A steel bridge is set to be constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for residents of Sitio Akliyan and Sitio Panluan in Oriental Mindoro. The initiative aims to replace a precarious bamboo bridge that has posed a safety risk for local commuters. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon highlighted the project's significance in providing secure travel across the river, especially during adverse weather conditions.

The existing bamboo structure frequently collapses during storms, leaving residents reliant on scarce resources to rebuild. This has posed significant risks for students, workers, and traders attempting to access essential services and markets. The new steel bridge is expected to not only ensure safety but also support motorcycles, making commuting more convenient for the community, including the Tribong Mangyan.

Dizon emphasized the relief this permanent solution will bring, noting that the daily struggles of crossing the river have negatively impacted residents’ livelihoods and quality of life. By offering a stable crossing, the project is set to transform daily travel and economic activities for the entire area.

Looking forward, construction is anticipated to begin once preliminary planning and funding are finalized. The community eagerly awaits the project's completion, which promises to enhance connectivity and safety for all residents, reported Manila Bulletin.
