I wish I could get real black beans as are always on offer at shops in South Florida, or in Naples FLA.

The prices of black beans, dried, are outrageous here.

But why?

Beans should be super cheap, but they are not.

Publix does not overcharge, as I recall.

Where do these beans come from, anyway?

Ocean freight should be very low cost.

So, why the huge price discrepancy.

And, why are they not on offer at food courts here in Thailand.

Don't people here love them too?

image.png

So, I guess Thailand is not as cheap as we thought.

One should always be thrifty when shopping.

What is your problem? 300g of black beans is available at Tops for 25 baht. Get a life.

Hanging out and occasionally are not the same.

So, it's not the food court, it's the 'hanging out' with friends that's the problem. It's been deeply frowned upon in the past by some on AN when the hanging out has been observed at a bar during the day, and now we've added hanging out during the day with friends at a food court as also a very big and not allowed no-no. Ok, got it. Now, everyone to your bikes--and NO socializing!

They wouldn't be allowed to loiter in bars without buying something which is why they stay so long in that food court and block the tables

That's annoying as hell, when at a food court (rare), and people not eating, but socializing and or just staring at their phones. Obviously a bit skint, as surely better venues to sit & socialize at, though may require a purchase. Hope they are not there, as too skint to use the AC in their box condo/apt.

We were more focused on eating in your car I believe. That would be out of paper bags and plastic, and I see as rather sad. I would at least take my food back to this wonderful veranda you talk of. Always amused by the concept of Chinese food in the USA, eaten out of cardboard containers, but of course we have to use chopsticks for that original ethnic feel!

My Mrs cooks for me and we eat out of the veranda, my view is only of the garden. There is a place nearby set practically on the beach we eat at some times. I get a kick out of meeting a few western guys at Big-CX now and again, keeps the mind ticking over. Some of them do it every day which isn't my thing. One has to beware of becoming too insular.

Obviously (not for your spin), I, we, don't sit in the car, if not too hot outside. Really sit in car for the AC. As posted yesterday, nice surfside munch, although dog was enjoying the AC in the car.

Usually just dog & myself, in the car, and for a quick pastry & Danish. When O&A, charging car, if most comfy place, then we'll have a full on munch in the car, though vendor w/seating is preferred, unless on 7-11 is available, and no seating there.

Food courts ... I've spent plenty of time in, especially when living in Udon Thani, as hate shopping with wives at the mall. Can't remember ever striking up a conversation with anyone at a food court, or meeting anyone, as so many other venues available. Was nice for eye candy of course, while sipping a beer, waiting for wife to finish shopping.

Can't say I have many mates that I met on regular basis, aside from a monthly meet up, via local forum, when living at Udon Thani. Met about 5 decent friends from, and been to their house, or them ours. Anyone else, I'd consider just a passing acquaintance.

Without the forum, I probably wouldn't have met many farangs at all. As mentioned, daughter's classmate family, and good friend from that. Really don't know how or why I would meet farangs. None now, where we live, though there is a group or 2 that meet regularly surfside for sipping & socializing. I can't be bothered meeting anyone, as most too grumpy & negative for me.

No mall with a food court where we live now. If not for Swensen's & Pizza Co, wouldn't even visit the small, crappy Lotus's mall at PKK now.

Happy travels & socializing, if that's your thing ... ENJOY

In 15 years living here I've never seen that as a problem at Big C Extra--we always have been able to get a table the times we have eaten at the food court, although we are now on the Darkside and aren't at BCX very often; maybe it's become a problem now.

Yeah check it out now since the very recent refurb, guy asked to use my table as none available, i doubt I'll be back for a few months

Dear Sir,

I think you are correct.

image.png

However, I will not believe they are available until I see them with my own eyes.

If Big-C sells the same variety of beans as is used in both Mexico and Cuba, then I will buy them.

So, I do not know what THINE problem might be, but....MY problem is that....

I cannot find cheap beans in Thailand, STILL.

Maybe you can do a bit more research in this area and then REPLY to me in a more CONSTRUCTIVE way?

You THINK?

Thank you.

I am still looking for these beans.

I wish Big-C would sell these, and also offer them in their food courts.

Maybe you can contact Big-C and tell them?

Thank you,

Regards,

Gamma

I think you should worry about the worm in your brain more than Cuban beans. You can contact RFK about its removal.

I've got to agree. I expect people to play the heel on forums but am surprised when they're that bitter in real life. I don't know what more someone from a country that's cold and wet half the year could ask for. Thais sleeping under bridges have a more positive outlook than a few of the expats I've met.

in that food court majority loitering seem to be farang, probably Italian although someone said French. No loitering signs need to go up where they sit

Yes I was in there yesterday and did hear Italian, but at Midday the crowd in there was a good mix.. Coincidentally I was in Central (Tops) and was hearing a bit of Italian in there too.

Must admit I returned there about midday yesterday and struggled to find somewhere to sit. i was desperate to rest and cool down before driving home. Can't easily walk down the West side of 3rd now as the pavement is all dug up! It is on second too. Will this place ever take care of pedestrians!

A few Italians sitting at the tables in Big C in the middle next to a new coffee bar, some had water the others zero, when I worked in Italy it was common place for the bars to put free snacks on the bar. One particular bar stopped it, the Italians would come in buy one coffee eat the food watch the football on the TV then leave, needless to say the food didn’t appear again.

Are you sure that it isn't you who is "grumpy & negative"? 😊

Happy as can be, and easy, just avoid those who don't know what happiness is. If you can't make me laugh, there is no need for me to talk to or even know you.

My dog is happier and more intelligent than most humans I don't want to know.

You don't often demonstrate that via your posts. 😊 My dogs are also funny, relatively intelligent and lovely. So are my humans.

People tend to read a lot into my post, usually mistaken. Oh well ...

Now you know, hearing it from me ... Sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, critters, birds, surf, mountains (OK hills) & Unicorns. I'm an open book.

Laughing, dog, kid, wife ... the rest is just killing time.

People read what you write. If you mean something else, then you need to learn to adapt your writing in so they understand what you are trying to convey.

The way that you picture yourself is not the way that others see you. That goes for everyone.

For instance, you've often claimed that I'm a Troll. Of course I don't see myself in that way at all. But I have to accept that you are in a different bubble and perceive what you see from a different angle. That's why I don't get involved in name calling. That just perpetuates the ignorance.

The only way to change your mind is to demonstrate that by having normal exchanges with you. Saying what you see is not Trolling, but I understand that people who aren't used to people doing that, might receive it in a negative way. That's not the way it is meant.

In my world, truth is more important than massaging someone's ego. Who can you trust? The person who will tell you the truth or the person who will massage your ego? I prefer to have friends that I can trust.

Open discussion is normal to me. No hard feelings at all. Obviously that's not the same for everyone.

Get a grip man, most of those in Big-CX are confined to wheels! Mind you, one got a bit shirty with me once when he caught me using the invalid's toilet!

I've noticed a lot of Frenchies there and the saddest is the old geezers with their younger wives having to chaperone the kiddies in the play area - these are the good guys as well the ones that didn't walk away - the gaunt look on their tired faces have long drained of the excitement they came to Pattaya for - it's the thousand yard Klang stare where dreams go to die. And if the Changs are out before sunset then double point bonus .....

Sounds like envy and jealousy when you mention old geezers with younger wives, you are being vert judgmental, plenty of other places in the world where old geezers have younger wives, Trump comes to mind !

I'm not envious - it's the young hyper kiddies as aging dad checks out the talent around him and wistfully remembers the happy daze when he was trouble free. The mots bitter man was a good looking nice guy in his early 60s who fell for a 7/11 girl in her late twenties that got pregnant pretty quickly. He said he was too good a bloke to walk away but should have had a burner phone and thrown the sim in the Chao Prya on the way out. He said his life was a misery his falang kids back home had abandoned him and here he was in his sunset years with a woman who no longer loved him with is kid. Klang falang "club" - has it's own vibe different from most other food courts, Marina Mall is my current favourite for everything including the quieter food court with a seeming better class of person - snob that i am. Good bargains at the outlets there as well. Terminal 21 is Russkie central and Central Festival is all comers wit ha top end of Arabs. Less of the kids.

How do you what these people are thinking, are you telepathic, if you don’t like clientele at Big C don’t go there. Anyway why you hanging about kids play areas ?

Not sure guys having children in their 60s is a good thing, they missed the vasectomy on arrival signs at the airport

I'm generally having a coffee where the massage chairs are whilst my wife goes shopping just watching the world go by. Spinning darams in my head - why not.

I'm happily childless myself but can see they bring many much pleasure and purpsoe if wanted and loved. Pattaya is like a human zoo though and good to go on Safari and watch the animals at play.
