Former AARO Chief Says Unexplained Objects Seen in Space

Featured Replies

Unexplained objects detected in space performed manoeuvres beyond known aerospace capabilities, according to the former head of the Pentagon’s UFO investigation office.

Lieutenant Colonel Tim Phillips, who served as acting director of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) until April last year, said some cases extended beyond Earth’s atmosphere. He told the Daily Mail that while most incidents occurred in the air, a small number were recorded in space.

“I would say probably 90 percent of our cases, if not higher, were always in the air domain,” Phillips said. “Most of these were in the atmosphere, but there were things in space.”

AARO operates within the Department of War and is responsible for collecting and analysing reports of unidentified aerial phenomena. The office focuses on data-supported cases submitted by trained military personnel, including fighter pilots and radar operators.

The lieutenant colonel also told the Daily Mail that while most cases involved objects in the air, some sightings extended beyond the atmosphere

Phillips said several reports came from “highly qualified observers” who described objects showing unusual flight characteristics. He said some objects appeared able to stop suddenly, accelerate rapidly and make sharp right-angle turns.

He said these movements did not match the performance of known aircraft or spacecraft. “The things that aircraft and spacecraft we know don’t behave that way,” he said.

AARO reviewed thousands of reports during his tenure. Phillips said fewer than 50 cases remained completely unresolved after detailed analysis.

He said those cases were examined by experts but no explanation was found. “We’re talking some of the best and brightest in the world couldn’t explain what it is,” he said.

Phillips added that investigators were able to rule out the possibility that the objects were part of any known US or foreign military programme. “We were able to conclusively prove it wasn’t a known system, either adversary or friendly,” he said.

Despite the unusual behaviour reported, Phillips said the objects did not appear to pose a direct threat. He said AARO did not observe hostile actions.

“We never saw any hostile behavior,” he said. However, he noted that some objects were seen near sensitive locations.

He also said that in certain cases the objects appeared to attempt to avoid detection. In other cases, they did not appear concerned about being observed.
