Eight buffalo disrupted rush-hour traffic in Da Nang on Friday morning by running through the city's iconic Dragon Bridge and several central streets. The unexpected event caused drivers to swerve or stop as the animals crossed the 666-meter landmark, known for its weekend fire-breathing displays, and headed towards An Hai Ward. Authorities managed to corral the herd into a holding area, awaiting identification by their owner.

The buffalo are believed to have wandered from Hoa Xuan Ward, a grazing area on the city's outskirts. Allowing livestock to roam and endanger traffic is against local regulations and can result in a fine. If the animals cause accidents, owners may face additional civil or criminal charges, depending on the severity.

Da Nang has been tackling issues with free-roaming livestock, a recurrent problem in this bustling city of over 1.2 million residents. Previous incidents include injuries to a child in May 2025 and a motorcyclist's accident in August, highlighting ongoing safety concerns. Despite directives to curb free-range grazing, enforcement has been inconsistent, leading to resident frustration over unresolved safety risks.

Moving forward, local authorities plan to strengthen measures to prevent livestock from roaming freely within urban areas. They are working to identify the buffalo's owner and address the situation according to legal standards. Enhanced enforcement of existing directives will be crucial in ensuring both pedestrian and vehicular safety throughout Da Nang, reported VN Express.
