I don't know, but I doubt that the documents are couriered. I would expect the paperwork to be uploaded and pulled off by HMPO staff in Liverpool etc.

Something has 'obviously' gone wrong at the VfS end and the application has not been 'sent' or uploaded.

Either way, I doubt that I will have the answer until at least Wednesday.

Last time I renewed through VFS the application was definitely couriered to the UK. They sent me (without my asking) the DHL reference so I could track it.

Just a brief update, last evening (15.40 GMT) I received an email from HMPO saying that they had received my new Passport application, giving me a reference number, and saying they would contact me if

I am happy to stand corrected....................in this day and age I surprised that such applications physically cross borders..............what would HMPO do with 24 blank photocopied passport pages.

Maybe return them to VFS to arrange storage in the same repository used by immigration offices for storage of all the paperwork we are required to produce at annual extension of stay time!😊

On a rather more serious note, I wonder whether it might be worth your while firing off a complaint to HMPO on the basis of their online passport enquiries form - particularly bearing in mind that it almost certainly won't be until Thursday at the earliest (rather than Wednesday, as you previously stated) that you'll be able to contact VFS on this matter after Songkran:

https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office/about/complaints-procedure

At the very least you need HMPO to tell you how you can contact VFS by phone, given that the HMPO UK adviceline cannot seemingly assist you in the absence of an HMPO reference number (a classic Catch-22 situation in the midst of the overall train wreck that is the UK passport renewal process from Thailand, I think). And, unless I've missed something, VFS haven't publicised any contact phone number on their website:

I tried this because when they give you the passport photocopies back it was a suspicious combination, of course the complaint/feedback went nowhere

😄😄

It was the online help/complaint function that I used to make contact over the weekend... that was after calling the general HMPO helpline (who didn't seem to be aware of procedures in Thailand - referring to VfS as a 'third party' and not an enforced processor appointed by HMPO!).

I am confident that it will be sorted out later this week - but, it is a bit like trying to find a missing bank payment; I have to start with the recipient first - they can find no trace so the next step is the remitter/sender.

Oddly enough the CM branch of VFS don't answer emails either.

OK, so the dreaded email .......... we require proof of address??????

But they already have the colour copy of my D/L certified as genuine by their agent VFS.

Did they not see the D/L copy?

Is it not good enough evidence?

Why don't they tell me what was actually wrong with my application?

Nobody to email and ask, trying this help[at]customerservice.hmpo.gov.uk

If the VFS document check isn't good enough, why are they using VFS?

What a poop show these clowns are!

At least it should receive their attention tomorrow.

Thank you for your email. This is an automated response.

Please be informed that the UK Visa Application Centre (HMPO) will be closed on Monday, 13 April 2026, and Tuesday, 14 April 2026, due to a public holiday.
We will reopen and resume normal operations on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.

We have recently upgraded our appointment booking process. You must now schedule an appointment online by visiting https://visa.vfsglobal.com/THA/en/hmo/login.

HMPO are not difficult about addresses.

My back up (where nothing obvious is available in Thailand) is to get a wife/partner to copy their ID and sign underneath "I confirm that Mr Scuba lives with me at 87/2 moo 5....". I have it in writing from HMPO that this is acceptable.

Interesting development.

Despite denials that anyone could find the application, I saw this this morning when I checked my banking.....

Good news then, you didn't get the extra pages? i hate it when you think you're going to run out

LOL.

I remember the days of organising trips to Siem Reap from Buriram. I got through a large passport in 18 months.

Having turned 70 my travels are not going to be as extensive (only England, Singapore, Scotland, Macau, Hong Kong, Prague, Switzerland planned for this year) so the standard size seemed appropriate for the next 10 years.

According to AI, though, the VFS office is still located in the Trendy Building! But hopefully they were able to port the phone number indicated to their present location.

Quick update

I received an email overnight from HMPO simply saying “Remember, when you collect your new passport, you must sign it with a black ballpoint pen. You cannot use it until you do” It was timed at 21.11 BST, so I assume it to be an automated mail that is sent at a certain point in the process (maybe once it has been printed)

No mention of the passport being sent, or when I can expect to receive it, but it is only 23 days since my application was submitted at VFS Bangkok; so far, so good, I think.

You are right and the passport will be delivered to VfS imminently.

That timing appears consistent with recent timescales.

Yes indeed; the timing seems to be very much in keeping with other peoples applications, apart, of course, from the very few that have suffered issues.

Last year I used an agent down Pattaya way as it is a 5 hour one way drive to VFS, then back, then again to pick it up. Fuel cost at least Bht 4000.

He did everything, all copies, all paperwork, and submission to VFS. New Passport couriered back in exactly 4 weeks. COST? Bht 6000 for the passport, plus Bht 6000 for the agent. SDuper service.

Thai Visa Express on soi 15 (The Avenue Central Pattaya off soi Bukhaow) does renewals for 5,000 baht if you pay the cost of the UK passport by credit card otherwise 13,000 baht...well recommended.

That's pretty good, cost me under 500 baht plus passport cost but I don't mind an extra trip to Bangkok every 10 years

That appears to be helpline contact information for Indian passport renewal services.

VFS in Bangkok handle consular (passport & visa) business for several countries. Last year, I made the mistake of using Google to find the appointment page for a UK passport renewal at VFS, and ended up on the appointment page for a German passport renewal at VFS. You need to be country-specific in your search.

I found the key to getting the correct procedure is to go to the .gov.uk website for passport renewal FIRST, as that will give you the correct link to the VFS department that handles UK passport applications and renewals. Also keep in mind that the email address they use for application updates is usually send-only and trying to respond to it is a waste of time.

As mentioned earlier when a search mentioned that VFS were at the old Trendy location, the AI-enhanced search engines aren't infallible. I did a recent search for "senior US Democrat politicians" and it listed Biden as POTUS. Go figure.

Thanks.

I am becoming less confident in all the AI search results.

Final update from me (because we are now on track)..... Card payment taken on Monday (despite the HMPO help desk telling me that they couldn't find the application), email just received from HMPO confirming receipt and quoting their reference number.

The email included a satisfaction survey so I may offer some feedback.
