I'm sympathetic but VFS are just acting as agents for HMPO and are not supposed to give advice on things like the difference between your previous and current photos. That said, waiting 4 weeks to contact you is ridiculous.

Actually, they are, their main job is to verify you, your old passport photo and your new passport photo are the same person.

@1happykamper Sorry to hear about your problem, at least on my 4 week delay they asked for something I could actually provide (my original Thai D/L). Expect many emails and a letter threatening to keep the money and not provide a new passport ...........

Can I suggest an online complaint through the HMPO web page, it worked for me.

Make a complaint ......... https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/help/what-do-you-want-to-do

Just a brief update, last evening (15.40 GMT) I received an email from HMPO saying that they had received my new Passport application, giving me a reference number, and saying they would contact me if

I do wish that people like you would read the thread before making banal comments.

Absolutely. VfS have no authority over what you submit. One time I was asked "is that all you want to send" (because it wasn't a standard document); I told them "Yes" and they made no further comment.

They were very good at picking up an error on my last application.

Mine was issued in 2013 and has all my data in Thai AND English.

That is why I cannot understand why an International Driving Permit is required to use it in UK, and vice versa, as it is only a translation. But who am I to question it!

Bit late for reply but my Thai licence was accepted at Arnold Clark Heathrow branch without an international licence. Just needed a passport photocopy plus Thai licence. They actually told me they prefer dealing with a Thai licence to a UK one as they would then need more paperwork ( utility bills as proof of UK adddress ).

I have still not renewed mine as my planned trip to the UK went on hold after the war in the Middle East kicked off. I dont like the available direct flights as with a herniated disc , 12 hours in an economy seat doesn't bare thinking about , never mind the now inflated price. Original planned Emirates flight was only 27,000 , a lot more now.. So....back to the drawing board. Don't think the process for applying in Bangkok has changed since February.

Yes, I rented a car from Alamo at Gatwick a few months ago, and only a 5-year Thai licence was needed. As I've lived in Thailand for 20+ years, I shouldn't still have a UK licence 🤫

Post Scriptum: Yesterday I took my new passport along with my old one, to the immigration office at Hua Hin to have my visa stamps transferred.

I was handed a simple form to fill in before going into the office.

They asked me if I would accept a charge of 500 Baht for this service. I believe that officially there is no charge, but it remains at the discretion of the individual immigration offices. I, of course agreed, and they duly placed a couple of stamps showing my old passport number and original date of arrival, and transferred my current visa stamps. This filled pages 6 and 7 which are the first blank pages.

I was in and out in about 30 minutes; the office at Hua Hin was not very busy, unlike when I usually go in January, when it is mobbed.

Why would "They asked me if I would accept a charge of 500 Baht for this service." and why was your response "I, of course agreed" as this has always been a free of charge service by immigration?
