No way do they make 100 deliveries a day. If each round trip was only 10 minutes, it would take over 16Hours to do 100 trips!

I usually do tip but when I was in Pattaya two weeks ago late on a Sunday night , I ordered Subway at my hotel I was quite prepared to give him a 100 baht tip if he brought it up to my hotel room But.

Just the bottle, but it is the thought that counts.

We eat approx. 1x per month in the same thai restaurant. Bill between 800 and 1000 baht. 50 baht for the keyborder / singer and 50+ for the service.

Don't use grab, but my 2 different drivers from Lazada I give here and then 100 baht. Since gas prices have increased dramatically, I will do this more often, but not everytime. They always seem very happy with that.

About giving water to workers. That is a minimum standard IMHO.

Our gardener and the lady who work for us up to 4 days a week (I pay them 500 baht per day) have full access to 1.5 liter bottles of mineral (not purified) water. And they can use - if they want to - the workshop wich has an AC in it where they're allowed to switch it on and cool down if they need it. It's hot season.

They are thankfull for that show it in a nice way.

That many, really? Is that number a guess?

A 5 baht tip to a driver is insulting.

No tip actually better.

Rather a silly baiting question.

I don't believe that you don't know but you could put it this way -- you know one when you see one, kind of like how anyone can easily distinguish between erotic art and porn.

I've never heard of the term before. What does it mean?

Egads. Yet another forum mensa keyboard warrior who doesn't know how to google.

homely /hōm′lē/

adjective

  1. Not attractive or good-looking.

    "a homely child."

  2. Lacking elegance or refinement.

    "homely furniture."

  3. Of a simple or unpretentious nature; plain.

    "homely truths."

Not for the driver. If 1000 people tip him 5 baht in a year that is 5000 baht. If they all don't do it he is 5000 worse off. No tip is insulting unless you are in America where they have gone mad. In other parts of the world all tips add up.

Why are you getting angry? You started the topic about tipping. I would just round up so 164 becomes 170. No thought involved. I don't care about looks or gender.

How have they gone mad? Tipping is the norm in America as the wages for waiters and many service workers is below or at minimum wage, and employers have to make up the difference to minimum wage if the tips are low. . People for the most part tip well , although some are cheapskates, based on how good the service is.

I read the car drivers have daily costs of 1200 baht. The motorbike drivers would be more like 400 baht. That is break even. All those 3,5,7,10 baht tips would add up. If they made 200 baht in tips one day versus 85 baht the day before that makes a difference to them. So I have always given them a round up tip as it all counts and saves me counting out 1 baht. Five thousand customers giving 7 baht makes a big difference over the long term. That is 35,000 baht which could be 10 months rent.

The employers should pay better wages and not expect customers to pay them so much. Having to tip 20% or 30% is crazy each time is crazy.

Bingo.

You don't NEED to tip here except if it's automatically included.

Nothing will happen to you if you don't.

This topic really isn't intended to be about that.

It's more narrow than that.

It's about IF you do choose to tip and have come up with your own policy for tipping (in this case specifically about Grab food drivers) how you might (as I do) in practice alter that policy based on who the driver is as opposed to objectively about the service. So maybe not strictly fair. I won't be losing any sleep over this though.

It's always been a ripoff to waiters and waitresses there.

A Grab driver does not provide any level of service beyond handing over food. A waiter might top up your drinks or offer suggestions on dishes. The driver has to deal with traffic though. I'm just rounding up to all of them. Keeps it simple.

Lazada has drivers ?

What do you use them for ?

They do have. Runs under "Courier: LEX TH." LEX stands for Lazada express.

And in my region they also use Flash express.

They deliver to my condo desk. No tip.

I wrote: I give here and then 100 baht.

They all run diesel trucks. If I spend now (Diesel costs now over 50baht / liter instead of 31) per month 200baht more - does it hurt me? No.

But it might help them a tiny bit.

Yeah my diesel bills have risen to Bt.19,000 a month... and thats just to drive to and from work !

I estimate that over 90 percent of the Grab drivers are male. So anyway tonight I had another woman (as a driver). She wasn't homely this time but wasn't a stunner either. Thinking about it I've never had a Thai lady grab driver who was stunning and also no visible lesbians or women over 40 either. So this not homely woman was set for a small ding for doing multiple deliveries and then I didn't ding. So it seems that I'm consistently discriminating in favor of women drivers in general not only homely ones. So unfair!

So now I have a question. Have any of you ever had a very beautiful lady as a delivery driver? There are plenty of comely young men but are stunning women delivery drivers as rare as I'm thinking? I must admit I love the word comely. Archaic usage but fun.

Yeah, everyone from the same soi is ordering from the same restaurant at the same time. Genius.

How much did you tip her? I never really stop to judge their looks and I doubt models would be doing that job. The hours are not very good and the pay would only be decent if they put in long hours. The biggest issue is semi cold food and kind of sloppy food in a bag. It is not a good way to eat. Much better in a sit down restaurant where you get freshy cooked food and can enjoy eating it. I would rather walk to eat or ride the bike. Sitting in a condo and eating sloppy cold food really isn't the best way to enjoy life even though it is convenient.
