Youtuber anti-Thailand Rants

But he's not a digital nomad.

He's been living in Thailand 20 years I think, married.

And it looks like all the negatives of Thailand have caused him to become bitter -- no property rights, no permanent residency, 90 day reports, and increased cost of living.

This rant he claims Thailand is no longer a bargain and the prices will keep going up.

I don't care. It's one of those vlogs I chose not to watch. It seems that was the right decision. Thanks.

No country is as cheap as it was 20 yrs ago. Flights leave everyday, he's free to go elsewhere.

The video talks about western food not Thai food. People who prefer western food probably should choose a different country as only Thai food is cheap.

I wasn't here 20 years ago, but Thailand has indeed become more expensive during my 10 years here - but so has the rest of the world. People earn more and spend more, especially over the last few years. It sucks for those who are on fixed income, but it is what it is. I think the bigger issue is tourism grew 300-400% in that period, so of course everything that tourists use (and abuse) will increase above the general inflation.

One thing I do agree with him about - all those idiot videos describing how you can live in Thailand for $1000/mo and other videos showcasing Thailand as a cheap destination are doing Thailand a disservice and encourage undesirable people to come. And by undesirable I don't mean they are bad people for having no money - but they bring in little money while taking up resources and driving up costs for tourists and expats. And it's not good for them either - they come expecting to stay for a line time on a limited budget, only to find out their budget was completely unrealistic. Unfortunately we live in a time when any douchebag can start a YouTube channel and peddle whatever crap they wish for pocket change, so this isn't going to change.

Not that I would want to, but I could live pretty easily on $1,000 a month here, no travel, no entertainment, and government medical.

I have been saying even 10 years ago that Thailand is more expensive for a westerner than back home. Probably doesn't apply to Americans and their ripoff healthcare.

Me and wife spend about 2,500 cad in canada. The same life in bangkok would cost us 150,000 baht.

Breakdown

Condo fees $500

Property tax 160

Insurance $40

2 phone lines with unlimited internet $200

Wife's public transport cost $100

Since I kicked wife to work and me being a stay and home hubby she eats out most of the time. By her own words she prefers food in canada instead of Thai slop. Total food cost around $1,500 a month.

Zero health insurance and dental costs. Big refund check this year because of small earnings. Thank you Canada for take care ❤️

Did i forget extremely clean air?

Haters will downvote.

You forgot bad weather, whiney people, kneegrows/indiots/begging muslims/"french" canadians infesting the whole country, car insurance prices, hotel prices, rental prices. It's only cheap if you have your major costs knocked out such as property, willing to take the bus and don't go out much.

Everything you mentioned Thailand’s got double that and then some. You’ve got way more foreign idiots per square foot there than Canada could ever dream of importing. And better weather? My guy, when people on this forum are asking for any cities with AQI under 90 like it’s the promised i think Thailand has a problem not Canada.

Why would I stay in a hotel? Remember, nothing to see. My condo is nicer than any hotel. It's wasn't that difficult to own. A baby can do it. Move to Thailand while tenant is paying off your mortgage.

Don't drive, don't care. I lost my driving privileges because I stayed in Thailand too mutt. Now I would have to pass everything from beginning.

I go out everywhere and it's a nice walk. I own in the middle of the action. Pedestrian friendly, clean air, beautiful women too of all variety.

BTW, don't forget to do your Thai taxes? I just filed and will be getting a fat refund + benefits 🥳 🎉

Thailand went to chit after covid. Taxes, lol gtfo.... for what? A lung and colon cancer in return.

People who moved back home and are still on here miss Thailand.

The bashing is just a trick for their brains to cope with the loss.

A few years ago, when my son went to Triam Udom downtown (behind Siam Square) we rented a one-bedroom apartment walking distance to the school, it was B9,000 per month, plus B800 a month for a parking spot, and about 1,800 a month electric. Walking distance to Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Square, BTS Siam station, MBK, and the school. That's about half what you pay in condo fees and taxes alone.

Is this guy English. He has a strange accent. And used the American ''gotten'' but also says BAT not Baht.

Many of these individuals struggle to build a stable life in their own country, then move abroad—often to developing nations, and begin complaining. They sometimes seem to expect a more privileged lifestyle than the locals, which can come across as a sense of entitlement rather than a grounded perspective.

Many of them tend to be retirees... older, set in their ways, and sometimes lacking a strong family support system. In contrast, younger people are generally more adaptable and better able to integrate into new environments.

The "guy" claims he is British, but I believe the voice is AI generated, which is more and more common.

You''re telling me right. Some of the sub-titles on You Tube and other videos are absolutely terrible, and sometimes quite funny at the same time.

This type of guy can rant endlessly about Thailand no longer being a bargain destination—though chances are, he’s just bitter after losing his money to a poor decision.

People who are genuinely serious about migrating usually don’t rely on YouTube “influencers” for guidance. And if someone is easily swayed by that kind of content, their absence is unlikely to be a loss to countries like Thailand—or anywhere else being talked about.

Yes, it was pegged at 21 Baht until the crash in 1997 , but huge portions of Khao Kaeng were 5 Baht, noodle soups 3 Baht, beers in gogo bars 25 Baht, guest house rooms 40 Baht, air con hotel rooms 100 Baht....

Most Thailand Youtubers are digital nomads just selling Thailand to other digital nomads -- mostly the superficial stuff which doesnt apply to long term expats.

This guy here has just done a scathing review of the debt crisis and housing foreclosures in rural areas and the loan sharks. Thailand has one of the highest household debt problems in the world.

It doesn't affect the average expat who is coming here on a fat pension, but it's the dark side of the country that not many people talk about either or want to hear.

Yeah, duh.... of course I'm coping. However, I am not tricking my brain anything, I reason and take pros and cons.

I used to have a grand life in Bangkok. But sometimes it's time to re-evaluate. Am I still getting the same benefits I got 15 years ago? Nope. Did I sign up for notoriously bad air and tax filing as an expat? Nope.

Is this coping for some people too becase you can't afford to live back home? What sane person wants to live with this every day, lol. No ladyboy kok is worth this chit

I read in disbelief on this forum expats filing their taxes in Thailand. I am not coping, I am enjoying being right. 👇

Another leftist doing all they can to avoid paying their fair share. I'm shocked!

Maybe you can elaborate about my fair share because for sure my wife has been paying taxes in Thailand since she was 20

Was this you: "I read in disbelief on this forum expats filing their taxes in Thailand. I am not coping, I am enjoying being right. 👇"

Now maybe you can elaborate on why you live in Canada yet spend your days on a Thailand chat-board howling about taxes and Trump.

Maybe you can elaborate why should I be filing taxes in Thailand as an alien and a guest? Man, I was posting 2 years ago that if they go through with this tax nonsense and air doesn't improve I will be leaving. At least i am a man of character and stick to my word 😌

I can post from Nigeria if I want and there is nothing you can do about it. You don't own the forum.

So, a leftist that wants to raise taxes, flees the country to avoid paying taxes, and then brags about it.

Oh, I love it when people like you post, keep it up brother!

3 minutes ago, Celsius said:

I am not a leftist. You absolutely have no clue what you are talking about. I was in fact paying a non resident tax in Canada, while receiving zero benefits. Typical non educated MAGA response. Here's something up your valley

I never mentioned politics, yet you brought it up in literally every reply. I simply mirrored your MAGA-level uneducated tendencies. I am neither left or right. I don't belong to any cult like you Americans.
