Let's start on a positive note. We agree on something: If Reform or Restore form the next government, I expect that there will be many similarities with Brexit. However, our concord is the only positive aspect. We can also expect further economic decline, loss of influence and more fracturing of society if either Farage or, perish the thought, Lowe becomes PM.

It was a nice attempt to muddy the waters with your tangential comment about uncontrolled immigration but it doesn't work. The only 'uncontrolled immigration' into the UK in recent decades occurred when we were a member of the EU and that only applied to nationals of +/+30 European states. Strangely enough during this period, immigration wasn't really an issue and, broadly speaking, the UK labour market was in equilibrium. Maybe we should see if the conditions which prevailed at that time - you know, things like membership of a Single Market of +/-500m people and a Customs Union with +/-30 other nations - would work again?

Returning to the main point: Jonny's many nervous Thai friends make an observation about London looking like Islamabad. Rather than reassure these anxious individuals by pointing out that London is a cosmopolitan city with a long and proud history of welcoming immigrants and those fleeing persecution, that many of those Asian faces probably belong to second, third, fourth generation immigrants, that the overwhelming majority of them are ordinary people who hold down a job and contribute to society, etc, you are instead embarrassed by their presence.

Strangely - given that these "invaders" are all murderers and rapists - I didn't notice any of the local, "indigenous" female population in a state of distress and no one tried to harm me. Indeed, I'd met a couple of these "invaders" previously and we exchanged a passing, 'Hello', and cheery smiles.

Guess that we are just lucky in South London. It must be where the "invaders" have stationed their diplomats.
