  • Why? Stock up on supplies, stay home, ignore it. That's what many of us do. Anyway, do you realize how silly that sounds. It's like going to America and petitioning the government to stop July 4th. S

I'm seriously thinking about starting up some kind of petition worldwide to put an end to this Songkran madness

I watched Tiktok video today of a elderly Thai van driver being attacked by groups of young farangs with a high powered water pistols

This was Phuket about 15-20 farangs attacked him

They even opened all doors on his van as he was fighting them off and sprayed water inside

Does anyone have that video they could post , very very sad

Road deaths , hooligans, etc ,blindness , eye injury

We must stop this festival and if I have to do that I will, as the saying goes ,if it's to be it's up to me !!

I may have to go see my local Member of Parliament about this again to write to the Thai government to do something!!!

Songkran poses a serious issue because of the considerable water waste it generates. In many regions, water is a vital resource that is in short supply, and we should prioritize its conservation rather than excessive use.

This festival signals the beginning of the rainy season; meteorologically more exact: the shift from the Northeast Monsoon (the cool/dry season in Thailand) to the Southwest Monsoon (the rainy season).

As this brings moisture-laden air from the Indian Ocean, on Phuket it has most years been head-on the correct date, other regions might take a few days more.

And as anybody has been in Thailand for a while knows: as soon as the raining season starts, you will get flooding, as the blocked canals cannot handle all the "surprising" downpours. Splashing a bit of water beforehand is literally drops to the ocean.

Apparently someone was shot on Walking St earlier

Varies between £4.30 and £7 and odd at the pubs I frequent, depending on draft or cask. Of course Wetherspoons have various daily specials where a pint is between 2 and 3 quid.

Aren't Draught (I know a silly way to spell it) and Cask the same thing? Enlighten me please if not. Thanks.

You weren’t the only one who stayed at home, ever since I’ve been living in Thailand, I’ve hated that festival and make sure I don’t have to deal with it.

Most of my family keep out of it accept the traditional Songkran where small amounts of water are given to a person with a blessing especially to show respect to the elderly .

I am all for people having a good time with the festival as long as it does not impact on people who are clearly not indulging and for those shopping during the 3 or 5 days is normally delayed until normality returns .

Maybe restrict the water battles to water parks or beaches which should keep everyone happy .

Cask beer is naturally carbonated through fermentation that is ongoing in the cask and served using a hand pump ("beer engine") or gravity. Draught beer (usually keg) is "dead" and is force-carbonated with CO2 or nitrogen and served via pressurized taps. A cask beer is pulled with the nozzle immersed in beer in the glass which prevents air getting back into the cask and buggering the fermentation and helps to form the head. Keg beer is poured with the nozzle in air as the propellant does the foaming.

Meanwhile, at Wetherspoons, what they call "Real Ale" is cask.

Well that would explain why you can get Draught Beer in a can. 🤮
