Aren't you embarrassed to live in Pattaya

Do you seriously think that after 15 years in Thailand I wouldn't expect a bunch of moaning sexpats to trash a Western city the exact same way they trash Western women?

Wow… totally unexpected!

But clearly it’s hitting a nerve, so enjoy aqi 151 and mission definitely accomplished.

But Pattaya is close to Bangkok and Chang. Toronto is far from Thailand. A Thai fan would pick 30 Thai cities ahead of Toronto. That's the thing. Toronto would suit workers but for retirement almost any Thai city wins even Patts.

    Nope, love living here.

I’m more curious where you live that’s so flawless. A utopia, is it? No drunks, no dodgy headlines, no locals behaving badly… just everyone sipping herbal tea and filing their taxes early?

Why do you have such a compulsion to post dispiriting content on this forum. That’s the question you should be asking.

I must say that Pattaya is not the fun place it it used to be. Since post Covid there's a heap of sh*t coming here now. Most are 30 yo's drinking shots and using drugs and go off their heads if you even dare to look at them. When I first hit Pattaya it was mostly guys 55 yo plus enjoying themselves.

Does collecting disability qualify as "retired" Probably some other words but not retired. 555

I retired at 45, with no expectation of getting disability, and didn't apply for it till a year later, which was at my brother's insistance (as you probably know) nor receive it, 2 yrs later, after retiring.

House already built, paid for cash, along with one new car already bought, again, w/cash, and seen half the country/TH already.

I had 3 rental properties (5 units) that generated income, since free & clear, which income I didn't even need to retire, so I sold them.

I had all I needed for retiring without disability. If not getting fired from my job, I planned on retiring within the next year or 2 anyway. Didn't realize I could do it earlier.

I never needed disability to retire, and I generated as much income in retirement (not counting disability) as I did 30 yrs working. Disability is just an extra, and keeping track one year recently, I banked almost 100% of my SS, and didn't use for living expense. Money has never been an issue.

My retirement was planned without pension or disability being part of it. Or I wouldn't have retired if having to depend on something I had no control over. Both could stop at any time.

Nice try though.

No, not almost every Thai city wins over Toronto.

There's even a guy online who retired in London and he is enjoying it.

Big cities have lots of stuff going on, despite the drawbacks of being concrete jungles and expensive.

Toronto is freezing cold in winter.

Phimai is the most boring Thai city I've been to. Yet I'd pick it 1st. There is an airport at Khon Kaen with flights. Plus Khon Kaen is nice.

Yea, nice try to claim to be a self made man on the back of hardworking Americanos.

Funnily enough a chap here who swapped grey skies for Chiang Mai AQI 300 sunshine, calls it 'living the dream' which apparently includes stiffing the UK government out of 2% annually on his frozen pension while his wife shops for second hand broken Rumba vacuum cleaners.

Pathetic.

Haha

Don't disagree, this was about 20 years ago

I didn't give it a thought at the time.

I wasn't really looking for a girlfriend or a wife. That's really what she was after

I just wanted to get back to Asia, backpacking and r&r in Pattaya.

Wow, that's not even close. Are you retired on a mental disability. Your brain isn't working at all.

I sold 3 free & clear properties (5 rental units) before retiring. I could live in TH on that money alone. Disability simply changes into retirement at 66. Something every working Yank pays into.

My Soc Sec retirement alone meets the Thai non 0 for retirement financial requirement. Which I don't even need, as I could almost live on my company pension alone, which is a pittances, but add savings, and I don't need SS.

I can almost bank the SS, which is shy 1M THB a year, (depending on exchange rate) with little effort. Easily done if I didn't go O&A 2-3 months a year. That's 100k THB just for hotels, and that's on the cheap.

3 custom built houses, and 5 new cars since being here. We're really struggling, just like everyone else that for some reason you think we're all living in Patts in a box condo/apartment, living on 30 baht street food, sweating our butts off because we can't afford to run ACs.

I don't (and wouldn't) live at CM, and I'm a Yank to top it off.

What I'm not is a person who hates TH, doesn't live in TH, what's nothing to do with TH, but is obsessed with those that enjoy living in TH, can afford to live in TH on any level of comfort they wish, but you try to imply we are all unhappy, unhealthy, living out of a box condo/apt.

You don't even realize, that's not type of member that posts here. Few to none come on AN to tell the world how poor & unhappy they are.

All the ones that failed at 'living their dream', left, as you did, if you even attempted to live in TH.

You should really give it a rest, and try to enjoy that life you're trying to convince yourself you have, instead of mistakenly trying to knock ours. It really is embarrassing yourself. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for your wife.

Now understand why she works, security for her future, praying you crap out soon. A very smart gal.

If you are in Pattaya, roughly 1 in 10 people you see on the street in urban areas is a white expat. If you look at Thailand as a whole, that number drops to roughly 1 in 300.

You could say the same about any tourist destination in Thailand. Samui, Phangan, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chaing Rai.

What a bunch of hooey you are generating from AI.

What are you trying to prove with your incessant googling and use of AI about Thailand? First hand experiences seem to take second place for you.

That's not gonna happen with free healthcare and free dental. I'm 52 and plan to live until 100. I already billed Canadian government thousands in preventive care.

Livin' the dream!

Chiang Mai - nice but pollution bad

Chiang Rai - ok but a boring version of CM and pollution

Nan - funny city, drives r nice though

Phayao - dump. Cant understand why youtubers love it.

Lampang - dump

Lamphun - ok

Phrae - dirty city

Maybe Pattaya isnt that bad

No surprise he doesn't know how to use the forum. BritMan is far from skint. Just bought a BEV with pocket money, lives comfy, dines out quite often, sent daughter to Uni, I think. "Living the Dream".

He did follow up on 'evenkeel's' funny post about me destitute on disability ... cheesy So I was part of the targeted reply.

That doesn't say much for your health, if needing preventive care, if not simply a check up every year or so.

I never needed any medical attention till almost 68 yrs old, and that was an almost routine 11 minute procedure. I'm pass my expiration date already, and rather healthy, @ 71.

As I suggested, your mental health is a bit off, and this thread is living proof.

Why does he hate Thailand? Pattaya is just 1 city.

Either never been, or got taken to the cleaners, during his short, very expensive time in TH.

Hope it's not the reason he can't afford to live in home country of Germany, or even Thailand. Chose Canada for friendly emigration laws & free healthcare, which if fine. Tolerable enough to live there if you had to. Easy enough to make the best of what is there.

Plenty of worse places to live. I've lived in a few places, temporarily, that certainly weren't by choice, but beneficial to my future, so tolerable.

Just don't try to tell us it was his first choice, and one of the best places to live. Weather alone half the year is enough to keep most people away.

That he's on here bashing people & places he has no clue about, while convincing himself he's 'living the dream' is all a bit telling.

That's the whole point i guess.

Living poor in pattaya is better than living in car in America.

Screenshot_20260506_073224_Facebook.jpg

The poor may get more news stories but the vast majority of expats living in Pattaya are not poor--many are far from it., including everyone I know here. One poor expat found broke and wandering homeless--that's front page news. Thousands of expats living very well here, going about their normal, everyday lives--no story there.

Asked Ai if Phuket or Pattaya have more losers

The Verdict

  • Go to Pattaya if you want to avoid pretension. You’ll see the "losers" clearly (mostly in Central/Walking St), but they are easier to ignore if you live in Pratamnak or East Pattaya.

  • Go to Phuket if you want to avoid squalor. The "losers" here are better dressed and have better tans, but the constant upselling and status-chasing can be more draining than the grit of Pattaya.

If you’re looking for a place where people are actually grounded, many are currently ditching both for Prachuap Khiri Khan or Chumphon, where the "loser" density is significantly lower because there isn't enough "sin" or "status" to attract them yet.

Childish view of Pattaya persists.

And AI is clearly flawed ... it often just tells people what they want to hear.

Of course you would think that as you are both scamming the government.

Neither one of us is scamming anyone, that I know of. How do you figure we, or at least me, I, that you know little details about, that i am scamming my govt. Because some idiot, who is also ignorant, suggested it in an earlier post you read.

Their (govt Soc Sec doc) deemed me as disabled, and agreeing with my doc 100%. Two herniated discs & 5 degenerative disc, (MRI verified) and that was 25+ yrs ago, when I put the paperwork in for an OJI, (on job injury), which I got fired for, the next day cheesy

Can't blame them for that. Probably saved themselves about $250k USD, at least, as that's about what my first back surgery cost them. They were self insured, so it was coming out of their budge. Doesn't count months of recovery, and a replacement employee while I recovered on the payroll. Smart move by the bean counters.

Before I even got hurt & fired, my house was already being built, actually done Dec in TH, I was married previous Nov, and commuting to work from TH, for 6 months prior to injury & being fired in April, I think.

Retirement already planned, though not as quick, maybe another year of working & investing. Had already liquated most hard assets. Just holding stock portfolio, and waiting for a new contract, and hopefully a buy out for vested employees. Only reason I didn't already just quit.

Now you're all filled in, so explain how I scammed the govt. If anything, I'm the one that got scammed. They did end up compensating me a bit, but nothing close to what they saved by firing me.
