Monthly transfers Bangkok Bank for one year extension

Featured Replies

I haven't decided yet if I shall use money in bank or monthly transfers yet for application for one year extension 2027 but allow me to ask if anyone know if Bangkok Bank also has any "special rules" when using monthly transfers as proof of income for immigration when applying for a one-year visa extension! Will they usually issue a so-called bank letter as proof that the account belongs to me and with the amount deposited, and will they issue a one-year statement when they understand the context and background of the request. Btw, for the past year after my request, I have had monthly "credit advice" issued and sent to me via e-mail which I then plan (this applies to next year) and print out and bring to immigration but do they first have to be printed out and then taken back to the bank for a handwritten signature or does immigration generally accept them as they are?

Thanks

BBL will provide the Bank Letter + 12 month bank statement.

Have read many reports of funds frozen for 4 months when using money in bank method.

Not sure what they would do when there is nothing to freeze using income method.

Be aware that you need to run both methods for a year in sync to change to income method.

I did this last November however I used a normal bank Kasikorn.

Are you in Pattaya? Many people report the Bangkok Bank branches in Pattaya not providing the required items for the monthly transfers. Haven't heard of similar issues anywhere else though.

Yes they will, but, unlike other local banks, not on the spot. You should plan on it taking at least a week for a BBL 12-month statement to be available for collection from the branch you ordered it at.

That said, some offices - but by no means all - do accept consecutive 6-month statements which are issued on the spot.

When I was getting retirement extensions based on funds on deposit, I changed banks. It was trivial. After the required balance dropped to 400K, I moved the unencumbered 400K to my new bank. Then a few weeks later I moved the remaining 400K. For my next renewal I just needed documentation for both accounts. I moved from BBL to SCB EZ Savings to benefit from the 1.5% (currently 1.45, paid monthly) rate offered.

If using the monthly transfer method to support your next extension renewal, BBL will provide you with a 12 month statement and a certified letter confirming that you are the owner of the account. When you request the letter, make sure its the letter which includes the current balance of the account as there are several versions of BBL certification letter.

If I remember correctly, BBL charge 200 THB for the statement and 100THB for the letter.

As has been indicated previously, you will need to order the 12 statement from your BBL branch.  They in turn will have to request it from HQ in BKK and this for some unknown reason will take about a week for it to get to your branch. Remember, the 12 month statement must cover from the date you when last applied for your extension, not when your last extension started.

NOTE: Immigration will not normally accept a statement printout obtained from an online application. BBL statements are produced by matrix dot printers which have perforated edges which are a 'give-a-way'. They are normally one page per month and not stamped/signed.

The letter certifying your account can be produced by your BBL branch almost immediately (well within 30 minutes if your lucky).  The letter is normally valid for 7 days, so you need to work out the timing of your visits to the bank and Immigration.

Regarding the Credit Advice Note which BBL emails to you when they receive your remittance from your home country… It does not require being certified by the bank – See the note at the bottom of the advice note e.g. “This is a computer generated advice. No Authorised signature is required”.

FYI… Some Immigration Offices like to see the Credit Advice Notes as it clearly shows that the funds have originated from outside Thailand.  That said, others are not interested.  My advice, for what its worth, is have copies with you when you apply for your extension and only surrender them if asked by the IO.

FYI…. The IO will almost certainly ask to see your bank book which should show the 12 monthly deposits since your last application.  Again, it is advisable to have copies of the relevant pages of your bank book showing deposits for the past 12 months as some IOs will ask for them, others not. Again only surrender if asked for.

FYI…. It is prudent to make a small deposit, or withdrawal (e.g. 100THB), on the day you go to Immigration for your extension and have your bank book updated at the same time.

Hope this answers your questions. Best of luck with your extension.

Why have you introduced money in the bank method and funds frozen for 4 months when the OP clearly indicates monthly transfers? This type of response is totally incorrect and just creates confusion.

7 hours ago, DrJack54 said:

Again, confusion. The OP makes no mention of changing method from money in the bank to monthly income, or visa versa.

May I respectfully suggest that you put brain in gear and read the post before belting the keyboard.

Because I took time to read OP posts in other threads. Give it a try.

Try and be across things rather than just repeat standard stuff such as update on day of application etc.

BTW we are aware that BBL 12 month bank statements take up to a week to obtain.

The bank Letter will state balance on day of issue.

Nothing respectful at all.

Cut the cheap shots.

I was mindful that the OP had a previous post concerning changing from a retirement to marriage extension and that his questions regarding that matter were well covered. This post covers a totally different angle so hence my advice.

Who are WE?  You may be aware that BBL 12 monthly statements take a week, but the OP may not as this will be his first time in having to obtain one.

FYI… As you have not used BBL to support your extensions for some time, you may have forgotten that their request form for a certified letter, which is in Thai, has 3 options on it.  Only one of those options provides the balance at the date of issue.  Hence my advice which was intended to provide practical and accurate information for the OP, and any other AN member in a similar situation.

Wow, after wading his way through your prescriptive treatise, I'd surely be feeling punch-drunk if I were in the OP's shoes! 😩

For Bangkok Bank you can request the 12 month account statement through the app. More services, Request Account Statement. My experience I've had to request the statement 1 month prior because the selection dates only went back 11 months from current date. Additionally if it's a weekend, or holiday that is around the first few days of the month were bank was closed you may have to wait a day for current month to be available.

You would then need to request the current month statement and print all of them out.

Still required copy of account page of bank book. This was for Chonburi immigration.

I have been using monthly transfers for my last three extensions, last one in Dec 25 no issues. I get the credit advices and give them to Immigration, "Rayong", bank does not have to sign them. If your transfers come in with the code of FTT you don't need credit advices.

That's disappointing. In reality both have 7 day validity and should not be required to be issued on same day as application..

FTT is a code used by BBL.

Using Kasikorn it has been sufficient to request bank statement in Thai language and in doing so the Thai script indicates transfer from abroad. I have not required credit advice.

I did this last November however I used a normal bank Kasikorn.

I used to do monthly transfers to my Bangkok Bank account up until last October and the money was never frozen. At that point I had 800,000 in the account and stopped doing the monthly transfers. I did my retirement extension in December and no issues. They looked at the transfers up until October then checked that the 800,000 was in the account until I applied for my extension. This is the Chiang Rai office which is very easy to work with.

Thanks a lot👍However not sure if I get your meaning with "12" statements". Do you mean one statement for each month? Is it not enough with an annual statement which cover 12 months included the month/date I applied last year and then in addition 12 credit advice`s for same period and a copy and original of book bank and yes, the bank letter?

In the main the folk that got caught out with the BBL "freeze" were the guys doing marriage extensions using money in bank method.

Some just seasoned the funds for two months and had BBL spring this rogue act on them.

Out of interest may ask... Why did you opt to change from income method to money in bank.

That indicates international transfer

A 12 month bank statement lists all the transactions for 12 month period.

As a result it shows monthly transfers for checking income method and balances if using money in bank method.

On the subject of credit advices, I recently changed my payment method to directly from my pension provider to my Bangkok Bank account. On my passbook it showed as 'BAHTNET'. Can I ask the bank for a credit advice to show that the money originated from overseas?

Bangkok Bank has a problem with one year statements, as a branch can only print the previous six months. You'll need to order a one year statement about one week in advance, and not accept delivery by E-mail, but request it printed and send to your branch to be stamped as proof for an immigation office.

For monthly transfer-method extension of stay, I'll recommend you to use another bank that can issue 12-monts statements without any issue, instead of Bangkok Bank. Others in the forum might have good suggestions, as I myself have no experience. I use a 12-months fixed deposit—actually in in Bangkok Bank and without any problems at my local immigration office—I also have bank accounts in SCB, and there seems to be no service problems with statements.
