New shoes

Featured Replies

I want to buy some new shoes. I don't want to wear socks with them, and if I were an American, I would call them loafers. Slip-ons, no laces and comfortable. I haven't bought any shoes here for years. If anyone could recommend a shoe shop that's reasonably priced and preferably not in a mall. Walking a long way is a problem.

Thanks in advance.

I like Gambol slip ons, thai style shoes but really comfortable, need to try as these makes can vary for example Adda way too big for me, suits big thai feet. most shops sell them incl supermarkets like Lotus

I also like these Gambol shoes. Very comfortable. Also agree about the different sizing for other brands. I buy mine at BigC.

Gambol is a good brand

Sketchers just scream IM OLD but they do make lots of slip-on style shoes although I'm hesitant to call them sporty rather than geriatric

Sperry top siders are very expensive here, but if you can get them outside I'd recommend. Your feet won't sweat in them and stink. Wear with long or short pants 👍 Not exactly the hippest shoe, but it's as you've described. I'm certain there are knock offs.

Recommend a white lifestyle shoes with laces... Adidas shoe 1.3+ cheap. Upmarket Nike 2.1 if you can buy outside On cloud are most hip and very comfy. You can get these sort of slip-on style. Recommend you wear socks with these - far cooler than you might think. Save the shoes as well.

Brown black Sperry's here actually work color wise and match any outfit. Preppy casual chic.

  • I have a brand new pair of Sperry above. I don't wear them because I now have an addiction to white sport shoes

  • I also have a pair of nice Clarks slip-ons that are also brand new. I bought these for a job and then I decided to retire. New. These can't be worn with shorts. Nice.

Both are brand new. I even have the Clarks box.

Here's another... Ben Sherman canvas shoes. I got these in the States but then my wife found some like new on cloud sport shoes here online for me so I'm stuck with these as well. Never worn.

I'd include picture of the Clarks and the sperrys but I've got them in shoe bags and I'm too lazy to drag them out. They look something like the attachment photo but doesn't have the big thing on the back side. The shoe bottom is substantial good for walking and especially if you're older. It is a more formal shoe although it's casual slip-on

As for shoe shop to walk in and try on which is what I would recommend. Buying online is not the way to buy shoes lol. I'd recommend Bata. There are better shoes and shoe companies but the foreign stuff is really expensive here. I wouldn't wear them but they've come a long way since early days.

Recommend you just come to Bangkok and spend a few days in the better malls you'll find something. If you limit yourself to Pattaya I'm sure there's nothing down there outside of Central unless you're looking for a locally made shoe

I personally cannot wear that type of shoe without socks, as the insole is plastic and makes my feet sweat and the shoes smell after a while. Ankle length cotton socks can be bought for next to nothing, black or white, and can obviously be washed every one or two times wear.

Definition of shoes for you

Screenshot_2026-05-10-09-33-50-618_com.deepseek.chat~2.jpg

Skechers. They're incredibly comfortable, they offer a lot of support, and they hold up really well, try to find a pair that's on sale.

That's a very basic definition. There are many different types.

Do note the word foot covering. Those plastic fashion disasterscyou posted to not actual cover the foot properly. Only the most basic folks would call those things shoes

Of course there are different types of shoes, your definition doesn't exist except in your head

Bought a pair in Dubai for Bht 3000. Had words like Air Cooled, Relaxed Fit, Dual-Lite and Equalizer 5.0 (whatever that means),

So uncomfotable after a while wearing and walking. Binned them.

I got great use out of Reeboks as work shoes 13+ years. Nike bought here, TH @ Nike shop were highly rated & crap. Cushioning flattened out, and then bottoms separated, and that after minimal use.

Fake Crocs are crap, and make my feet sweat. Real Crocs are just silly priced.

Apple sandals don't last long, but inexpensive. Had expensive thick foam flip flops, best so far, but only last 1 year. Have expensive thick foam sandals now (VING VARI-S) and disappointed with them already after 2 months

For those shopping, up at Impact Arena area, across from Cosmo Bazaar, all the brand name outlets are there, for all in one spot browsing.

image.png

May want to research current brands / models, though didn't help me with my Nike, as stated, highly rated, but crap. Filter whatever & browse. Note a few down before shopping, as good chance they won't carry your first or third choice. If larger than size 11 (US), then good luck.

If walking is a problem, why are you seeking advice on buying shoes?

Was on X. This popped up. Grandpas finest. Perfect for OP

Screenshot_20260510-164716.png

Adda and Heavy put out good stuff that is comfortable and for the price durable with many styles.

I rarely wear footwear that encases my feet unless I am to attend to a formal office type occasion.

The thong between the toes type of thing is a low social marker outside of the home environment and should be avoided in the public domain. lol

That's the best chuckle I've had this morning. We all wore those without socks back in the 80s and they got absolutely rank. What part of a thick leather shoe provides ventilation?

OP, you've entered 'the Rockport years'. I'm sure they have a line of high quality footwear that will be very comfortable.

Seems so, there are advantages to basic rubber shoes like Gambol, as well as being very comfortable, doesn't matter if they get wet in the rain, unlike shoes and trainers which usually needing drying for 24 hours and degrade each time they get wet

I used to wear Nike slides. Light, somewhat comfortable. About five years after resetting in Bangkok I changed to shoes bc only poors wear slides during the week. Anyway, during this time I have never been caught out in the rain or have my shoes so wet then I needed to dry them for 24 hours lol. I will concede living in Pattaya you probably walk more in the evening and have no real public transport therefore more likely to get caught out.

Nevertheless, the OP described proper shoes not those things. My guess is yours are red correct?

Sperry's aren't Rockport's. Rockports are knock offs.

Yesterday North Pattaya rains very hard for 30 minutes i was on my scooter, if you live in Bangkok or spend your life indoors yeah get bigger shoes

I find it interesting to note how many people equate shoe style with age.
Or thinking that other people pay attention to which shoes they wear, and they worry that they won't be respected because of choosing the wrong footwear.
This is Thailand. The laid-back place. No need to Keep Up With the Joneses. Chill!
