Lifecare Laboratory - STD/STI testing - How accurate are results

Featured Replies

Lifecare Laboratory does HIV & STD/STI testing for a 700 baht package deal which tests Anti-HIV, Chlamydia Ag, Syphillis Antibody, HBsAg and Gram's Stain.

Are their results always 100% accurate?

Strange question Are the results accurate anywhere?

Ask them, they won't tell you the strain, but generally if you are positive the treatment is the same unless it doesn't work.

You hopefully know that there is an incubation period for each of the things you are testing for, HIV is about a month

Everything on the test was negative or non-reactive or not found (Gram's Stain test), which is good if it's 100% accurate. Just wanted to see if anyone else here had any issues with their test results being inaccurate at all.

and how long before the test did you have sex etc? if 30 days you are in the clear for HIV, the others usually show symptoms in a week or so

Probably a couple of days prior to the testing.

ok then not accurate at all, takes time for STIs to be picked up in tests

Are they not testing for HIV, not Anti-HIV whatever that is? If they found Syphillis anti-bodies would that not mean that your body had fought it.

Gram's Stain is simply a basic test for all versions of bacteria.

Gram's Stain is simply a basic test for all versions of bacteria.

The Anti-HIV test doesn't mention if they use the latest 4th generation HIV antibody/antigen combo test or an earlier version. Does anyone know which generation test they conduct?

Regarding Gram's Stain, the results are for:

  1. Gram negative rod in single

  2. Epithelial cells

  3. Wbc/Pus

  4. Spermatozoa

  5. Budding Yeast (Candida spp.)

  6. Gonorrhoea/GC

No health-related test is 100% accurate. All have a certain percentage of false negatives and positives.

Not according to your posting history.

A doctor can't find anything wrong with you so you go doctor shopping in Australia on the taxpayers dollar, and when that doesn't work you try again in Thailand.

I'm not making this up, it is all from your own posts.

Is this a clinic? Sounds like it. Lab is usually off premises (always). Maybe hospital or a certified lab. If the latter usually the lab is designated somewhere on the report.

Like scuba stated any antics < 30 days before the test has a chance of not showing especially HIV. Many other STI like two weeks. If you have symptoms wait and retest.

Lots of nastiness in Pattaya. Take care

What about scurvy?

Do they test for scurvy, as well?

image.png

I am thinking about testing my serum levels of Vitamin D, and also K-2, if possible.

No doubt, I have scurvy, by now.

Still, if not Lifecare, then why not just visit a decent private hospital like RAM?

I have heard of a better place in Chiang Mai for such tests.

Or, is Pattaya better, since Pattaya might get more business?

HIV / AIDS is a scam.

why? because you've not caught HIV yet?

To determine if a medical laboratory in Thailand is properly licensed/authorized and meets quality standards, use these practical checks (as there is no single centralized public database for all basic operating licenses):

eventbased-doe.moph.go.th

Check for Accreditation (Strongest Indicator of Quality & Compliance)Accreditation is the most reliable and transparent way to verify standards. Reputable labs proudly display this.

  • Bureau of Laboratory Quality Standards (BLQS), Department of Medical Sciences (DMSc), Ministry of Public Health: This is the primary body for medical laboratory accreditation (typically ISO 15189 for medical testing labs).

    • Look for the BLQS accreditation certificate or logo on the lab's website, reports, or premises (with accreditation number and validity dates).

    • Many accredited labs list it publicly. Examples include hospital labs (e.g., Chulalongkorn, Bumrungrad affiliates) or independent ones.

      andalab.net

    • For specific lists (e.g., during past COVID networks), check DMSc sites like service.dmsc.moph.go.th.

      service.dmsc.moph.go.th

  • Other accreditation bodies (for broader testing):

    • Bureau of Laboratory Accreditation (BLA), Department of Science Service: Searchable directory for ISO/IEC 17025 testing labs at bla.dss.go.th/lab-accredited/en.

      bla.dss.go.th

    • Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI): List of ISO/IEC 17025 accredited labs at appdb.tisi.go.th.

      appdb.tisi.go.th

Go to another clinic or hospital and get the same tests done. If results are the same, good chance everything is accurate.

But, as noted above, there are incubation periods - so if you do the same tests several weeks apart, you might get different results

You can buy about two dozen condoms for 700 baht.

Yeah, ask Magic Johnson because it's a bit too late to ask Freddy Mercury or George Michael.

I did ask Magic Johnson.

I spoke to him.

We dribbled, took some hoops, and he fessed up.

Last century, while we were working in China, a driller mate was taking a break in Thailand a week before his wife was due to fly in from England to join him. He messed around a bit on Patpong (as you do), and we assumed he was being careful (don't ask, don't tell). Anyway, the morning his wife's due in, he wakes up and is pissing razor blades. Tells us over breakfast in a panic, so we dispatch him to the nearest clap clinic for test, diagnosis and antibiotics. Comes back a couple of hours later a bit more assured but worried about how long it takes the infection to clear as his wife is due in that night and they've been apart for about two months.

He's bricking it all day, wondering what excuses he can come up with to avoid rumpy pumpy. Bad back, brewers droop, headache... He leaves us at the bar around 8 pm to go meet his wife at Don Muang and get her checked in at the hotel, still bricking it.

He catches up with us for beers the next morning, and he's happy as Larry. It seems the meet and greet went well, but while they were canoodling in the back of the taxi to the hotel (as you do), his wife regrettably informed him, "Sorry honey, but my damn period just started on the plane."

In HSE parlance, that's classified as a "Near Miss".

She's stupid or maybe had some guilt issues

It is hard for a laboratory to make mistakes, this place use computers etc for the testing.

I have as many, many others used this place without concern, indeed certain Pattaya Hospitals send their patients there.

Labs can yield wrong results as the testing machines are over precise and detect the slightest bacteria that could be in a badly handled sample recipient or if the samples are not taken in totally sterile conditions. So if your test is positive no matter on what and it's bad, take another test in a different lab.
