or rather, I don't have the patience to cook anything that has more than three or four ingredients, and that eliminates a lot of good things I could cook.

Me too at the moment, have been enjoying what I call component meals, where I put a combination of items on a plate with little to no cooking.. mainly a purchased staple, proteins, hot or cold meats n cheeses salad & crudites bits n pieces, pickles and condiments from jars etc................absolute minimal UPFs, prep and cleaning............

Lunch? Lately, I've only been eating two meals a day. A light breakfast and then a late meal sometime in the early afternoon. Sometimes I'll cook a steak or maybe a salmon filet along with some veggies, or sometimes I get lazy and just pick up the phone and order something delivered via Grab. I guess I'm not much of a cook, or rather, I don't have the patience to cook anything that has more than three or four ingredients, and that eliminates a lot of good things I could cook.

I usually have 2 meals before lunch. Get up at 5, breakfast then 3 hours later another small meal, then lunch, another 4+ hours, dinner, then a snack before bed. Today lunch will be leftover chicken, potato, carrot, cabbage, celery and onion soup. Cooking's on autopilot for years now.

You're killing yourself.

Unless you are working out, burning calories endlessly no need for so many meals.

It's actually the best way to eat. 5 small meals spread out. Not too many calories at one time to be stored, and enough energy for a full day. I've been doing it over 50 years and have been extra lean to fairly lean all along. The body needs multiple sources from all food groups for health. I rarely cheat, eat low fat and high fiber. I work out less than before now and haven't gained much fat at all, and actually lost a little because of the less workouts.

You may have a parasitic diseases, possibly a

Tapeworm etc.

It's not normal to be consuming the same quantity of food as you were consuming when you were young.

From what I understand, you absolutely should not be eating that way. It's not just about calorie intake. Naturally, your body has a rest and digest cycle. If you're eating so many small meals, that rhythm has no chance of working. There's also the question of autophagy. That's a process your cells go through to repair, regenerate, and flush out debris. And your body doesn't enter that stage without a period of no food.

I also might have a more knowledge on what certain foods do for a body, along with what you can eat and stay lean.

I have never had any health problems before coming to Thailand and getting H Pylori from something. Since it's eradication, back to normal.

I've eaten less quantity of certain foods as I aged, meaning lower amounts of rice and pasta, as you don't burn as many carbs as you did when younger, even if you still work out as much, which I don't anyway.

I've never weighed more than 180 lbs, and that was just before i started weight training at 17. Since then, I've stayed at 172 to 175, very lean until I hit 62, then 170 since. Body fat increased a tad, little less muscle as I can't lift extreme like i did before but still eating much the same foods all my life, besides more Thai now. It IS normal to eat healthy foods , the same all your life, but everyone has to decrease the portion sizes, as I have.

I go from 6PM until 5AM every day without food. I've been eating this way all my life, and have had no problems besides that H Pylori from here, which is gone. It's never a god idea to eat large meals, and small more frequent meals has your body burning what you eat easier, easier on the digestive system, and less likely storing calories.Your body mostly repairs while resting, meaning sleeping. I've studied nutrition all the 50 years I've been training myself and others.

The longer you go without food, the better, to a degree. Anyway, if you're happy with how it's all working for you and you're in great health, then far be it from me to give you advice.

Fasting is a good idea I've never tried, although I might one day, as it does refresh the system. I've never really eaten much in the way of junk foods all these years I've trained, as I wanted to stay lean, and it was easy to just eat Rice Cakes as snacks, along with pretzels, which are both just carbs easy to burn. I had many people change their diets and get results, as most were prisoners of food and it's taste.

Your gut microbiome is the most important system you have, and mine took a beating with that H Pylori, and the eradication, with 2 antibiotics and a PPI, also does a number on your gut, so I've been extra careful since having it, eating more Probiotics, Kimchi, fermented foods, Yogurt, Turmeric, and Collagen, along with my usual healthy diet.

There are a lot of things you can eat that are low in calories and satisfying but i did give up heavy rich foods since the beginning. I do miss some, especially some Italian dishes, and was brought up on ethnic Polish food as my dad did a lot of the cooking. I will eat pizza and do miss Cannolis occasionally, along with Calzones, but there aren't any good ones around here so I'll wait until we return to the states to enjoy more western food I miss.

You should definitely try fasting sometime. Absolutely. Some people do a one day fast, once a week. A three day fast is enough for a beginner. At first your body will go nuts, but that's just the sugar addiction kicking in. Break the fast with something like bone broth soup.

And yes, the gut microbiome is very important. It's responsible for something like 80% of the immune system. Probiotics, prebiotics, fermented foods, Kimchi, Greek Yogurt, Tumeric and so on. All of that is good and very much necessary to feed the microbes in your gut. It's a symbiotic relationship.

Remember this about carbs: as far as your metabolism is concerned, those are just another form of sugar.

And don't forget the electrolytes. Deplete those and you can get dizzy and pass out.

I will someday, but I like eating too much. Not all carbs are some type of sugar. Some are starches and fiber, They all break down into simple sugars eventually, and affect your blood sugar in different ways. Most of the carbs I eat are complex root veggies or green and yellow veggies. I've always eaten a lot of fibrous foods, wanting my gut to work daily. The only simple sugars I ge tare from fruit or what's put into spaghetti sauce. other wise it's Monkfruit, occasional honey or Splenda as sweeteners. I never take electrolytes but get them from food.

If you're fasting, you're not eating and you need electrolytes.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think your body turns starches into some type of sugar almost instantly. Fiber is fiber and is not metabolized into glucose.

Fairly quick, all depending how complex the starches are. Enzymes in your mouth start the process. Yes, if I did fast I would drink electrolytes, especially in Texas where the heat matches Thailand and even hotter.

I've lived in Texas. Never in a place like Houston, though. I was up in Plano, a suburb of Dallas.

Texas has its moments. All things considered, I liked Arizona better, though.

When I was about 10 years old, my grandparents took me on a trip to visit my uncle, who was stationed in Ft. Hood. After law school, he ended up as a Captain in the Army Security Agency to satisfy his ROTC commitment, and according to him, all he did was sit around all day in a Quonset hut, reading comic books and waiting for WW III to start.

One weekend, we all went to San Antonio to visit the Alamo and the other tourist attractions.

I have family there, and like the hunting and fishing Texas has, along with the coast. Would like to hunt Arizona someday. Stopped in Phoenix for a day once.

Believe it or not, AZ has higher elevations where you can hunt all sorts of animals. The state is not all desert.

Yes, I've always researched all states and what I could hunt there. Arizona has the Coues Whitetail, which I haven't yet hunted. It's only located in Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico (best area) and Arizona has a good population of them, and no red tape to hunt like I had to do in Mexico for Whitetail Deer. Arizona also has good Elk hunting.

The wife whipped up four beets, a couple carrots, a wad of ginger and a few oranges in a liter jug…

Shredded chicken tacos on a Saturday for lunch. Soft or crunchy tortilla? Up to you. Some homemade salsa as well. 😄

Looks good. I don't eat much in the way of Mexican food, but so love chicken fajitas with Pico De Gallo. I brought a few packages of taco seasoning back from Texas, and should have brought more, as my daughter loves burritos and tacos, especially potato and egg, which I make weekly mainly for her. I was thinking of making some homemade salsa, mild here.

I've seen taco seasoning in many stores here in Thailand.

If you can find any I can order online, let me know, as the Lotus here doesn't have any.

We will have some dim sum at a branch of Hong Bao, a slightly upscale chain you see in malls.

Every bit as good as if I went to a high-end hotel like the Shangri-La and have them.

On my low-fat high protein diet, there’s about six non-fried dim sum dishes that I can actually eat.

It’s a nice break from chicken satay or leaving half of the portion of spaghetti Bolognese at the pub.

I've seen the packets in Makro as well as Tops. Probably depends on location and demand.

2 Makros in Pattaya area one is expat friendly and the one I use is very limited.
