Does the tax department have access to the immigration computers? Who knows!

I just keep my boarding passes, just in case...

No.

Right now, they are asking me to send them copies of the passport stamps.

You can get the stamps, they're never going away but you need to be mindful to avoid the automatic gates. I was ushered towards one of these gates last year but said I need the stamp then they directed me to a different section....they still exist.

Edit : What you want is your 'travel record' from immigration.

Yes, that's the one!

If they don't then nobody is tax resident :-)

Thanks a lot for all the answers.

So, first of all, I will tell them I need a stamp when I leave.

Nobody is except the ones who told TRD they are.

I dont think your attitude is appropiate here.

All you people who have posted for years that nothing will change, that the RD is not interested in foreigners, blah blah blah... all you are doing is misleading naive people.

That you keep doing this now, when we get summoned by the RD, when the RD has issued forms in English, even one for foreign income, when every tax official knows that foreigners must pay tax, adds insult to injury.

This thread is extremely useful and factual, and then comes you and makes it your usual bickering thread.

MODS: do I as thread-opener have the possibility to prohibit certain people from posting in this thread, so as to keep the thread useful?

You can go to Immigration and request a proof of your ingresses and egresses during a particular year, typically "last year". The proof of travel record will even include the pics of yourself taken every time you enter or leave Thailand.

I assume the tax department doesn't have access to Immigration's computer, otherwise the tax department wouldn't require you to get a proof of travel record from Immigration in order for you to get a tax residency certificate.

There should be some undisclosed reasons, that you may be unaware of, why you've been targeted. TRD does not contact individuals randomly.

I thought so, too.

But @ballpoint 's story of his audit proved me wrong.

Still, they want to see my stamps, so they don't have them. They can probably get them from immigration if they want

Is that because you were a tax resident in the past and filed a tax return with them, so they want to establish that you qualify as no longer being a tax resident? Or did they contact you completely out of the blue?

I have been a tax resident (and filed null-returns) for the last 10 years or so.

Nothing in my situation has changed.

Nothing has changed?

So for the last 10 years you've been a tax resident, and decided to file null returns (which is why the TRD has contacted you this year)

But this year, you're asking how to prove to the TRD that you weren't a tax resident.

Seems like something has changed.

See what happens when you unnecessarily put yourself on TRD's radar screen.

You jump to conclusions.

As of now, I am still a tax resident.

Nothing has changed.

This whole point about what has changed was answering your friend @Yumthai who succeded in derailing the thread.🤮

It showed the RD does care and does ask questions.

OP was: how to prove an exit date.

Because I might need this in the near future. I may not be a tax resident much longer. So, the proof would be important.

The posters answering before the usual suspects jumped in to destroy the thread (like they have destroyed so many tax threads before), those posters gave ver y good answers. Thanks to them again

I agree.

As it happens, at the time i had very good reasons to file.

It was not unnecessarily

Could you possibly share what those good reasons for filing null tax returns could be......? Thanx.

So can you or @ballpoint please provide the relevant link? His current profile activity appears to be confined to listing several references to the Worst Joke Ever 2026!

A search for "audit" in posts by ballpoint gives several to choose from.

In defense of the OP it becomes increasingly more common to be asked for tax reports, in a country, even if that means nulled outcome reports. This for business and business banking KYC / AML procedures as well in plenty of countries when remigrating or emigrating there.

But IMO it is better to not be on any Thai radar if there is not a Thai business or job to begin with. I would then rather establish that part elsewhere to be a tax resident, even if mostly living in Thailand.

OP however still not answered concrete why they contacted him in the first place while falsely framing that to be now for anyone.

there can be different reasons why a tax return has to be filed, even if no taxes need to be paid.

for example, it may be required to claim a refund of withholding tax. or your home country may require a thai tax number so you can keep your bank account (in your home country) and ensure that the exchange of financial data with thailand is properly regulated ...

i assume that the rules also in thailand will become even stricter in the future, and that it will become difficult or even impossible to stay unnoticed by the thai tax authorities forever ... things are changing quickly ... we (all of us) will see ... 😀
