He is upset all the time. Living here not liking it. Living in Canada not liking it.

Its all actually hilarious as he cant remember where he dislikes the most.

He is probably bitter as I told him as a farang he is not allowed to own a 7/11, he must have looked into it and found out his daft dream is not possible.

What a dream though, what is your dream, "Erm I want to be a shopkeeper in Thailand". 😃

4.5% and 5% this year, sadly taxed at 20% so only 3.7% and 4% in the end.

The previous years at 10% and 8% were great though!

I know, it is great, it isa few extra quid for beer money as that is what my state pension is for. 😃

Plus rents are also going up in the UK which also means extra money for me each month.

Thailand, the so-called Land of Smiles, has really nailed one thing way better than beaches and cheap booze: hypocrisy on steroids.

Every sleazy scandal that slithers out gets the same tired script.... wasn't us. Prostitutes flooding the scene? Gotta be those Vietnamese girls. Scam call centers popping up like mushrooms? Blame the Chinese. Drug mess? Indians. Some border beef with Cambodia? Those peaceful neighbors started it. Deepfake romance scams? Nigeria. Thailand.... always the noble guardian of peace and all.

A place drowning in corruption, trafficking rings, dirty politics, and enough shady deals to make your skin crawl... and yet they've got the ballz to lecture everyone else like their hands are squeaky clean. Instead of fixing the dumpster fire at home, it's all propaganda, finger-pointing at foreigners, and hoping the world buys the innocent act.

Come on, at some point this gets pathetic. If your country's name keeps popping up in every global <deleted>show ....exploitation, crime, the works. Maybe quit the "everybody but us" routine. It's not clever anymore, it's just sad. Sort your own backyard before pointing at the rest of the planet. The excuses are wearing thin.

Thailand is actually a land of smiles until we come across the numerous farangs who mope about all day as they have become miseries, I tend to avoid them at all costs.

What do you mean i can't own 7 Eleven in Thailand? After 15 years in Thailand this is big news to me.

Thanks for dropping this life-altering bombshell on me now. It's a gamechanger especially since the first round of extra small condoms was going to be on me.

There are many reports of rapes, gang rapes and knife stabbings in Europe and the USA. Violence appears to be on the increase everywhere.

I don't need condoms thanks, but you can keep your condoms for your own use, you and you partner will probably have to wear one of the extra small condoms at the same time while you are at it. 😃

Re the 7/11, it has taken you over 15 years to realise you can not own one in your own name, that must have come as a shock.

Welcome to Thailand and Reality

Seems like Cambodia might be a better place to stay for OP...whistling

How many Farang 7/11 owners do you know?

You must have a University degree, a lot of money, and you cannot get a Work Permit for a job which a Thai can do.

But benefits aren't taxable income and you don't report them on your income tax forms.

Of course they are taxable. 10.5k State Pension plus say, 20k Private, you should declare 20-10.5 to pay UK Tax at the lower rate.

I don't declare anything, it's all taxed at source.

Only forms I fill is if they take too much.

And they haven't done that since COVID.

But I'm still of the opinion benefits are not taxed.

So in reality my state pension can't be a benefit.

According to Gemini, UK Pension is classed as earned income by HMRC and for other Means Tested benefit., but a State Benefit, and so 0%, by DWP for Government Administration.

There, that clears that up...........555

You're just upset because they reduced the Canadian VISA free entry from 60 to 30 days.

That's what happens when you let any low lives carry a Canadian passport!

HEY I resemble that remark

You didn't need to tell me that. Now I'm starting to feel nauseous.

You sure @nauseus will like that?

Oh, no! Another post blaming someone else, in this case, the Thais, for blaming foreigners for their local problems. It's not the Thais who are blaming someone else; it's you! 😉

To counteract that, every few years a taxi driver hands back a wallet to a tourist.

Not difficult. Enjoy the lifestyle in Thailand, but keep your wits about you.

Thailand is, at least as far I know and experienced the easiest, safest and most convenient country to live in.

It is far from the easiest and most convenient country to live in. The bureaucracy and restrictions are a major downside. I can get a one year multientry visa to Cambodia for $300 with no 90 day reporting, no TM-30 filing, no paperwork proving where I live and details about my landlord, and very little hassle. Work permits are also easy to get as well as the lack of a completely overreaching definition of "work". Getting a bank account is also simple without the absurd hoops that a foreigner has to jump through in Thailand.

Yes, there are some very good things about Thailand, but there are also some serious downsides.

Can you name some good things about Cambodia? Thinking of dumping my wife.
