Extortion In Thailand.

Featured Replies

Why is extortion so rife in Thailand especially at large markets, isn't this against the law? People just pay and keep their mouths shut because who's going to protect them from repercussions?

Extortion means standing over shop keepers or business people for protection money. Of course if you fail to pay them then you would probably suffer the consequences which could me harm to those people or burn down their business. It was rife in the US many years ago in the days of Al Capone and others crims such as him belonging to really dangerous gangs.

If you need to know the meaning of extortion just check with any free online dictionary which will put you in the picture.

I went to a reputable computer repair shop and the guy told me that the motherboard in my computer was shot. When I asked him how much to repair it he said to much but never gave me a figure so I could decide. I'm really only looking for a 2nd opinion as the laptop in question works very well when it's right.

When I lived on Samui, everybody paid the police protection money even Tesco Lotus

Isn't it only required here if doing something illegal?

I'm pretty sure CP doesn't need to pay extortion to anyone.

'What did the one bar stool say to the other bar stool? '

Another imaginary thread with even sillier " I know " replies.

Thailand tech support here. Thailand user malfunction repair procedures:

Step 1: Pack up all your belongings in Thailand.

Step 2: Place yourself carefully onto an airplane headed back in the direction you came from.

Step 3: Return to sender.

After review, we’ve determined Thailand is functioning normally.

The compatibility issue appears to be with the operator.

Operator errors account for 90% of all technical problems.

I know first hand from my step daughter, she like everyone else at her market pays. She's had shops in markets in Bangkok and Pattaya and even street vendors get the sqeeze put on them for money because they would live in fear if they didn't pay.

Couldn't possibly be for making 'security' rounds, and or earned income for some other service, other than protection money.

Protection money would be in an envelope, incognito, and they wouldn't need to count it, let alone in public view. It wouldn't be theirs, as they'd just be picking up for someone further up the ladder.

Stop being silly

Any opinion you receive with be totally worthless, as long as you are unable to recount the exact model number of your laptop. Think about it, would you expect an accurate reply from anyone, if you asked how much to replace an engine for your Toyota/Ford/Mercedes...?

It's not the BIB's it's the criminal element, they don't use envelopes.

I just asked AI, price to replace my mother board (specific serial #), and have to agree with your repair shop guy .... 2 much. I'd just buy a new laptop.

No extortion there, just good advice.

Seriously how would know? I get first hand information from my step daughter and her friends. So what is the source where you claim " not true at all."

If it was my daughter hanging out with people that had concrete solid knowledge about distortion she would have been grounded

Now it's the government's job to do the same extortion, but legally.

Nobody needs to be explained what extorsion means. It´s just you that have a difficulty with it! Hoe long have you been here? Do you know anything about Thailand?
