The Extended Security Updates (ESU) programme for Windows 10 provides customers with a more secure option to continue using their Windows 10 PCs after 14 October, 2025, up until the 13th of October 2026.

This, to answer @IsaanT's question, is another example of why I have to explain my posts to so many people here.

OK if you want to pay $61 per year for 3 years, which will double each consecutive year. It is free for EEA. Is Thailand in the EEC? 555

Yet another example. The 'knowledge' of most of the posters here extends to 'ask AI'. It is free, to all.

Windows 10 security updates are still available for free for some users, but only as extended security updates after official support ended in October 2025, and the free option is limited to specific enrollment paths such as Windows Backup/OneDrive sync or Microsoft Rewards points. Microsoft’s paid option also exists, and the available free updates are temporary, running through October 13, 2026.cnet

For regular Windows 10 upgrades, the old free upgrade offers from Windows 7/8.1 are no longer officially available. Windows 10 itself is still usable, but if you want ongoing security updates, you now need to enroll in the extended updates program.

All Linux updates, both OS and Apps are free, and only happen as & when the user wants. I now prefer Mint to Windows after using it since ms dos.

Linux is generally a safer and more practical alternative for older hardware than keeping an unsupported OS like Windows 10.

Aspect

Linux on old hardware

Windows 10 on old hardware

Security updates

Ongoing patches from distro maintainers for years youtube

No security updates after end-of-support (Oct 2025) microsoft+1

Performance

Lightweight distros use far less RAM/CPU, making old PCs usable reddit+1

Becomes slower and more resource-hungry reddit

Malware exposure

Smaller desktop market share → fewer targeted attacks youtube

~90% desktop share → most attacked OS youtube

Cost

Free to install and use youtube

Paid upgrade to Windows 11 or paid extended security updates microsoft

Beelink for me too. Just quit Microsoft, Linux Mint works perfectly.

The Beelink I got off Shopee 3 years ago came with Win11 Pro inc in price under 6K (probably cost more today) and has worked seamlessly ever since, esp for what the OP is needing a new PC for. No need to faff around getting Linux on a machine that boots out the box into a working Win11 system already. The Beelink came with secure boot setting default turned off in BIOS so other o/s like Linux can be installed, but I turned secure boot on to align with Win11 as it works fine.

That's great to know. My EQ6 cost me Bht 18000 2 years ago, with W11 Pro which I have now replaced with Linux Mint., 20GB RAM, 1TB nvme drive, It is so good, and fast. I use it for Music pruduction, but now had to change over from Sonar to Ardour, Outlook to Thunderbird, and various other tweaks.

Which model was under Bht 6000, as I now want another for a media/TV centre.

Do you know who it was that 'recommended' the OP to buy the fake 'Beelink EQ13 Pro' for 5028 baht?

Which begs the question...If you were looking for another Mini PC and you knew of the 'EQ13 Pro' for 5028 baht...why didn't you buy it?

Interested to know who recommended that to the OP.

Just more 'cut and paste' nonsense. You don't have any knowledge at all. You are just winging it and hoping for the best. Free to all users.

You are just spreading misinformation and obsessing over Linux.

I use windows 10, also free to all users through github scripts.

As for security updates, don't need them, don't want them.

Cutting a long story short Lazada does not deal with that Beelink model any more and they refunded my money. I have ordered another Beelink and am now waiting for delivery. This time a different model. PC S12 pro N100.
