Thanks to both of you - at this stage, the THIM appears to be entirely superfluous given that one can do a TDAC online and it is simple.

Now what might be useful is if, at some stage, there was a way of applying for a visa and completing a TDAC on the same website using the same login and personal details.

It would be a bonus if you could do them together, however given that most people probably apply for their visa several weeks before a trip and the TDAC can only be applied for within 72 hours of departure, I'm not sure how that might work. Technically, it wouldn't be that difficult but the timing rules would need to be changed.

IF the developers do "read the comments from the Aseannow beta-testers" maybe they might like to consider it?

As has been pointed out in this thread "Also, the original announcement said it wouldn't be fully functional until October. So why not just wait?"

I don't foresee this ever being an option. TDAC and entering are under immigration. Visas are under embassies and the MFA. Two completely different government agencies that do not work together or even communicate much.

And you're probably right then, but isn't it ridiculous in this day and age that they don't cooperate fully?

After all, if they did, the job of getting rid of undesirables and keeping them out of Thailand would surely be simpler.

But I suppose each has a boss with his/her own little fiefdom which they won't surrender.

Just as an example, in UK, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) controls and processes visas for the UK. UKVI is a division of the UK government's Home Office and the HO controls the Police.

Not that I'm suggesting UK's border controls are anywhere close to fit for purpose of course. They've even less excuse than the Thais for making a right bollo of it

Yes, after many, many attempts. Played with the lighting, shadows, etc., Eventually it worked.

I have tried every which way. Just got new USA passport the the seal on the picture is just too much, no matter which angle, lighting, it still there.

I'm guessing they will have relax the photo acceptance threshold as it seems unnecessarily high right now. Until then TDAC still works fine, although I think you can still use THIM without a profile.

Yes, worked first time as did scanning the NFC chip which others have said they've had difficulty with.

Just done mine (as advised on SF) ....easy peasy

I just tried to register. It accepted the passport photo ok, but it wouldn't accept my selfie - kept telling me to change background. I changed to a plain white naturally lit wall, no shadows, but still no go. Any hints?

I contacted the THIM support because I could not scan my photo, I sent them my information. I have a brand new USA passport.

"Thank you for your patience while we investigated your report.

Our technical team has completed the investigation and found that the portrait on your passport could not be reliably detected during the verification process. This is related to the characteristics of the passport portrait itself, rather than the way the passport was scanned. The portrait has lower contrast than those on most passports, making it more difficult for the verification process to detect consistently. Our team is working on enhancing the verification process to better support passports with this type of portrait."

So it was not me, but the system.

I had the same issue with a UK bank's KYC compliance, that required taking a picture of my passport biometric page through their app. The passport uses an embedded holographic image to identify it's NOT an original document when using a scanner or smartphone, so their app consistently rejected the pictures due to a "shadow" or being "blocked".

It's an anti-fraud security feature and it took the bank a few weeks to update their app so that it accepted 'blocked' images of my passport. Hopefully, the people designing the THIM app will also install a workaround.
