The term is just overused because Assault Rifle really means a full auto weapon, which no one ever uses against American civilians in America. Assault weapon is semi auto rifles like the AR-15. Assault Rifle is the same with capability to be switched from semi to full auto.

Wasn’t it Hitler the one that came up with the term “assault rifle” for the stg44?

The Second Amendment was written in 1791 for a world of muskets, not modern semi-automatic firearms. The claim that "more guns make us safer" is not supported by international evidence. The United

Do you think a household (or individual) with 50 guns is a significantly higher threat than a household (or individual) with 5 guns? A lot of people collect guns or like to have a variety of guns for different applications or whatnot.

And why did you clip my post?

Again, I asked you to support your claim that: "Guns have been the leading cause of death among younger Americans (aged 1–19) since 2020, according to CDC data.", yet you never provided the data.

I also asked if the data specified what percentage of the gun deaths were suicides, and you have not responded to that.

I believe that you do not like guns, and would like them taken away from the people that do like guns, is that correct?

Pretty weak brother

Wait, wait, wait! "Other applications" like banging in a nail? What other "applications" would a gun have? And why would anybody own 5?!?

10-19  1,250 deaths annually. 45% of all youth suicides involve a firearm. Good reason for not owning one, eh—so your sprogs may live to adulthood?

Overall, 44,000 guns-related deaths annually, 121 fatalities every single day.

35% of those—15,000—are homicides.

Satisfied now that something’s rotten in Washington?

NO OPEN CARRY! NO HANDGUNS! NO SEMI- OR FULL-AUTOS! Common bloody sense.

Not being very Biblical, shoot, that's the Sixth Commandment. 1 to 5 are more important than MURDER?!?

Wars are state-sanctioned murder...for no reason at all. Don't gimme that WWII face of evil bull<deleted>. Just like all wars, WWII would have ended by attrition no matter what the Nazis did.

So, if guns aren't the issue, are we really expected to believe that the United States simply has six times as many violent, unstable or unhinged people than its peer high-income developed nations?

Because that's the logical implication.

Either firearm availability plays a significant role, or Americans are uniquely prone to violence on a scale not seen in Canada, Australia, the UK, Germany, France, Japan and other developed countries.

And if you genuinely believe the latter, you've inadvertently made an even stronger argument for tighter gun controls in the United States.

The US has violence but there are plenty of countries that are far worse. Sudan, Myanmar, Gaza, a few African countries, Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras, Belize, Haiti, Venezuela, and others. As far as it's peers, it's not doing well yet.

Guns in the wrong hands are definitely the main problem. Guns in the right hands never will be.

We have a huge population, which means more violence and unstable people. Australia, the US and Greenland have the highest per capita of the mentally ill, so that's a problem in itself. India also has a large number, as well as China.

Mental illness leads to many criminal behaviors, and as I mentioned earlier, guns can be made safer by keeping them out of the wrong hands. Yes, we need tighter gun controls, and those I listed need to be made immediately, as even Americans are real tired of the shootings.

Can't hep but agree that the US has a much higher proportion of the mentally ill.

For a very long time, Bobbies were not armed (some still may be). They did just fine fighting crime.

So you agree with racist cops and ICE being armed? I suppose in a country as violent and gun-toting as the US, it might be called self-defence.

Most of the countries you named--you forgot Israel--are at war. Doesn't count.

There's not a right hand, nor a left, which should be holding a gun.

In Canada the state will kill you if you like, but you want to take guns away from people such that they can't kill themselves.

Twice as many people die from illegal drugs, but the left seems to have no issue with that. Give them ATM cards and free needles

I have 5 guns myself. Four rifles, 4 different calibers for different game and situations. Two shotguns. One for deer and one for upland game. Two bows and a crossbow. I would like to have more, as they're a work of art.

People who collect guns have never been a problem. It only takes one nut with one gun to make headlines and make legitimate gun owners look bad.

Semi autos are used for hunting and target shooting.

Open carry or concealed has people protected from illegal carrying criminals, or at least gives you a much better outcome if you're accosted. It's very simple, as responsible gun owners are not the problem. It's always been the crazies who are getting their hands on them, and some irresponsible gun owners are to blame.

Nobody's taking those hunting rifles from Canadians or need to. Anything heavily has been smuggled from the Land of Freedom.

Twice is right, about 80k die of overdoses. Where might they find rehabilitation, counseling and aftersupport in a country prioritising war???

Some police should have never been hired, in all countries, as some are mentally ill, power hungry controllers. No place for racism.

There will always be legitimate reasons to own a gun, but the laws do need updating, as well as the means of protecting others from criminals with guns. Remember that the US is all countries in one place, and a lot of the mentally ill are from your country, along with all others.

Americans aren't all about war. The military is, as well as some Americans. The people aren't violent prone. Some are, just like all over. There are thousands of mental health services in America, as well as counselors. More people.ore crime, more drugs, and overdoses. One reason the government's trying to keep drugs out like they haven't before.

ABSOLUTELY no excuse for semis to hunt or target shoot! It only takes one moment forgetting to lock up all those weapons of mass destruction for your kid to kill himself or your toddler to shoot his brother. Why? Because Daddy has set such a good example.

A work of art would be making your own rather than relying on some company to do it for you.

"Legitimate gun owners". You're not one of those kind of American Xians, are you?

And it is...just another part of life. However, I stated if one is suffering, they should be able to seek their own death.

People on drugs are suffering. Thus, they are enjoying your idea of a beautiful death.

People that do not like guns just want to take them away from people that do like guns.

Four times as many alcohol related deaths as firearm related deaths.

60% of all reported incidence of domestic violence are alcohol related.

75% of all reported incidence of rape are alcohol related.

35% of gun suicides are alcohol related.

30% of gun homicides are alcohol related.

My children have all been raised around guns, and some have hunted. they know full well how to handle a gun and the responsibilities of one. Art is made by many people in all areas. I don't have the talent to make a gun ( I think). A legitimate gun owner is one like myself that uses them for hunting and target shooting, along with self defense. A semi auto is good for a possible follow up shot at game if the first didn't stop it, so it doesn't get away and suffer a slow death. target shooting with semis is a fun sport, but not one I do.

Consider it the cost of freedom. Bleeding hearts seem to always miss the overall picture. I guess some folks would prefer that the people to live in fear the government opposed to the government in fear of the people.

I don't disagree. If the state won't help them--and many cannot be helped--what's the diff? Would you want a life like that?

My little children can understand smoking a doobie or even rolling a $250 bill to snort up blow. How could they ever understand tying off your arm, cooking in a spoon and sticking a needle in your arm???

To say drug war theatre such as blowing boats out of the water and murdering their crews is anything more than political is nonsense. The drug war will NEVER be won. So give people what they want--so what?

The drug war can't be won, but the gun war can?

Banging dope is just the next indicated step.

NOT ME! All those pols feeding at the public trough should be afraid their supply could be cut off at any time. How many would you count as true statesmen, having their duty to the Constitution and the people paramount? Blessed few is the answer!
