Well, if hordes of armed men from a thousand miles away stormed my land - see first Nakba of 1948 - and began ethnically cleansing my people and taking their land and homes, I too would dedicate myself to destroying the occupying state they set up. And, hopefully, the rest of my people who survived the carnage would likewise.

The vast majority of the Jewish population of Israel at partition when the state was created (by the UN - some 47% of the indigenous population were Jews) had lived there for generations. The hordes of armed men who stormed in, the day after the partition and the creation of Israel, bent on ethnic cleansing and taking lands and homes, were the armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. The Israelis faced up to them, and in a hard fought and close run conflict defeated them. The invading foreign armies instructe the Palestinians to move out, so as to give them (the armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq) a clear run at killing the Jews. That was the cause of the Nakba. The neighbouring Arab countries made several other attempts over the next 25 years to invade and destroy Israel; each time they were defeated.

That does not excuse, as I have already stated, what Israel has done in Gaza, The West Bank and against Iran, but it goes a very long way towards explaining it.
