Who are they?

Is they them there the ones that NEED to place an image to mark a post because they feel emotional and can’t put it into any coherent context? Like a child?

I think people moaning about the emojis is hilarious. I say we keep the emojis, but we should see which leftists who posts all the thumbs-down emojis.

Only positives and question mark. This leaves those who are cowardly and the few trolls to explain themselves, if they can, when they dislike a post. Question mark can have some not understanding, or

Thumbs down emoji : being used largely vindictively

yes, agree

Remove the thumbs down.

The meaning is too variable - it can mean I don't like the subject of a news report, I don't like the poster, I don't agree with the poster, I think the poster gave me a thumbs down, I'm jealous of the poster, I'm too dumb to understand the poster's point, I'm a loser and the only power I have in my feeble existence is handing out thumbs down.

Get rid of them, they're a distraction...........

How about adding a new one, this :

It's like the thumbs down but with a little more negativity and a smily face. It's got everything, a real winner!

I understand the purpose here is to build some consensus around how people feel about emojis, and I hope the outcome of this poll proves productive for everyone.

That said, I need to be honest: I couldn’t really care less either way. I mention that because I suspect I’m not the only person who feels that way. In the grand scheme of things, it’s such an inconsequential issue that the outcome isn’t going to have any meaningful impact on my experience, regardless of what is decided.

Looking at the poll results so far, it appears that most people are in favour of keeping emojis. However, I can see the argument for removing them. One potential benefit would be encouraging greater engagement from users who currently rely on emojis alone to express their views on a topic without actually contributing to the discussion.

What I think would be the most productive compromise is to keep emojis for those who value them, while introducing some form of participation requirement. For example, users could be required to post at least one comment on any topic before being able to react on any posts with an emoji. That might help address the issue of low effort engagement while still allowing people to use reactions if they find them useful.

We need a Victor Meldrew emoji.

Just remove the thumbs down, too many trolls just hit that as they do not care for the poster's political views.

With no thumbs down, the poster will put their name to the reason why they don't like the post as opposed to weakling trolling.

Add a boomerang emoji for topics that keep coming back every six months.

Get rid of the Red thumbs some members do it to wind up members who mentioned getting a red thumb. Its a bullet in the gun for them.

If there is something you would like added or removed from the emoji list, comment on what and why.

I'd like to see the positive emojis remain.

The Agree, Thanks and maybe thumbs up.

The broken heart is totally useless IMO, I never understood the purpose of it.

In this day and age, where too many people rely on AI to draft their posts, there should be an 'AI Slop' emoji, which would mean "you're not fooling anyone, I know you did this with AI".

And the bots that generate a lot of the initial traffic should have this ALWAYS too.

I have voted we get rid of all the negative emojis

And I have suggested we use "Gender neutral face " emojis instead of a male looking one .

We also need to introduce rainbow flag maybe as a positive emoji

Kind of like on WhatsApp or Signal, where you can choose your emoji's gender and color tone.

Thumbs up, Thumbs down, and the HaHa. Some posts are just funny.

I agree and would suggest keeping the "Thank You" emoji as well. "Thank You" and "HaHa" emojis help keep the threads clutter-free of one-word responses.
